SUMMARY: Excelsior Ambulance Service is accepting applications from qualified professionals to fill full time and part time openings within the Long County Division. Excelsior operates as the 9-1-1 EMS provider for Long County Georgia.

This a non-supervisory position which specializes in emergency medical care of sick and injured people. This person works with other EMT's or Paramedics and is under the supervision of the Duty Officer or designee. The Paramedic responds to emergency and non-emergency ambulance calls to provide Basic Life Support (BLS) emergency medical care and or Advanced Life Support (ALS) emergency medical care in accordance with the laws of Georgia, EMS protocols, online medical direction, and in compliance with Company orders and policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities -

  • Assess each call situation to determine best course of action and appropriate protocol.
  • Utilize medical equipment and procedures including defibrillator, EKG monitor, oxygen and suction devices, intravenous fluids, CPR and other procedures and medications as required to provide advanced medical care.
  • Develop and utilize triage skills to provide optimal efficiency during calls.
  • Provide patient care according to clinical protocols and safety requirements.
  • Lift and move patients as required to provide optimum care.
  • Communicate with receiving facility to receive medical direction and to provide critical information.
  • Act as team leader and take responsibility for scene and unit management as needed.
  • Drive the ambulance and provide map reading support to minimize call response time.
  • Continuously maintain all required certifications.
  • Communicate with dispatcher to receive and understand call data.
  • Monitor and maintain the general condition of the unit, keep it clean and stocked for optimal call response to maintain the image of Excelsior.
  • Document activities with regard to patient care and billing completely to ensure appropriate information is available regarding each call.
  • Consider patient status when determining transportation destinations.
  • Work collaboratively and in a professional manner with all allied health and public safety personnel.
  • Read medication/prescription labels and directions for usage in quick, accurate, and expedient manner.
  • Communicate verbally with patients and significant others in various environments to interview patient, family members, and bystanders.
  • Converse with dispatcher and EMS providers via phone or radio as to status of patient.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Adherence to and compliance with information systems security policies and procedures.

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements- (Field Employees Only):

  • Must be able to successfully pass Physical Agility Test
  • Aptitudes required for work of this nature are good physical stamina, endurance, and body condition that would not be adversely affected by frequently having to walk, stand, lift, carry, and balance at times.
  • Must be able to lift, drag, hoist, and carry different types of equipment and other objects.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of approved Paramedic Program.
  • Full time employees must be available for recall in times of crisis.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.

Education/Licensing/Certification:

  • Must be currently certified Georgia Paramedic NREMT preferred.
  • Valid Georgia drivers' license and a driving record that meets the approval of Excelsior's Auto Insurance Policy Carrier.
  • Current BLS certification from AHA.
  • Current ACLS certification from AHA.
  • Current version of NIMS training IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800 (or within 6 months of hire)

Other i.e. knowledge and skills:

  • Maintains professional competence and demonstrates concern for the competence of other members of the EMS health care team.
  • Ability to uphold standards of practice and education.
  • Ability to adhere to standards of personal ethics, on and off duty, which reflect credit upon the profession.
  • Must have full knowledge of the vehicle’s medical and non-medical equipment and its proper use within the scope of practice for Paramedic.
  • Does not use professional knowledge and skills in any enterprise detrimental to the Company or to the public well-being.
  • Ability to respect and hold in confidence all information of a confidential nature obtained in the course of professional work unless required by law to divulge such information.
  • Has good working knowledge of all company policies pertaining to this position.
  • Good knowledge of common physical illnesses, obvious symptoms, and medical terminology.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Required

· High School diploma or equivalent

· Current state Paramedic license

· Current BLS and ACLS

· At least 21 years of age

· Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations and calmly instruct and discuss information with patients; patient’s family members; coworkers; and public.

· Full time employees must be available for recall in times of crisis

Preferred

· One (1) year previous EMT or Paramedic experience in EMS setting
