Job Summary
We are looking to hire an oral surgery surgical assistant who is able to multitask and provide excellent patient care in a fast paced environment. Candidates must have their RDA and must be willing to travel to all three of our locations - San Antonio Medical Center, San Antonio Pecan Valley area, and Castroville.
Responsibilities and Duties
· Greet and seat patients according to schedule if x-ray needed assistant must take and export to chart.
· Review medical history, allergies and medication list at every visit
· Take vitals on every patient and record in OMS under vital signs
· Go over referral and get verbal consent about treatment
· Review options with patient local v. sedation, for sedation height and weight must be recorded.
· Have patient read and sign consent and make sure they understand procedure.
· Go over post-op instructions verbally with patient and have them sign and return form to patient if minor have legal guardian present to sign.
· Set –up rooms for each case/patient
· Before surgical procedure conduct a TIME OUT between doctor and assistant present to make sure we have correct patient/chart and go over allergies/medical history, review case and make sure everyone is in agreement.
· Assist doctor with surgical case
· Assistant is responsible for hooking up patient to monitor prior to sedation being started blood pressure cuff, O2 and EKG.
· Assistant must complete surgical notes and anesthesia form.
· Merge vitals after surgical procedure
· Remove tray and sharps from room after procedure, clean and disinfect all surfaces with cavi wipes surgical table, electronic table, glass jar, sink, counter tops and keyboard and mouse.
· If patient was sedated take patient to recovery room in wheel chair.
· Bring patient family to recovery area
· Go over post-op instructions and answer all questions and concerns
· Clean sterilization area and lab with proper instructions
· Stock rooms

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
