Florida Vision Institute is searching for an energetic, patient focused, team oriented, customer service oriented Ophthalmic Technician/Scribe for our multi-specialty ophthalmology practice in West Palm Beach, Florida. The Ophthalmic Technician/Scribe you will provide accurate documentation and summarization of the retinal examination and recommendations, while maintaining patient flow and communication regarding appointment status. This position is in clinic and not remote.
Responsibilities:
  • Efficiently and accurately interviews patients and documents histories.
  • Eliciting and documenting a proper chief complaint.
  • Communicates with patients regarding follow up care, surgeries, procedures, changes in schedule, signs and symptoms, surgery schedules.
  • Maintains and cleans all ophthalmic equipment being used.
  • Scribes readily when doctor desires.
  • Assist in minor in-office surgeries, procedures and laser treatments.
  • Accurately performs:
    • Refractions
    • Lensometry
    • Keratometry
    • Tonometry
    • Visual Fields
    • OCTs
    • Amsler grids
    • Muscle Testing
    • Pupil Exams
    • Topography
  • Returns phone calls to patients, pharmacies and physicians daily.
Qualifications:
  • Efficiently and accurately interviews patients and documents histories.
  • Eliciting and documenting a proper chief complaint.
  • Communicates with patients regarding follow up care, surgeries, procedures, changes in schedule, signs and symptoms, surgery schedules.
  • Maintains and cleans all ophthalmic equipment being used.
  • Scribes readily when doctor desires.
  • Assist in minor in-office surgeries, procedures and laser treatments.
  • Accurately performs: Refractions, Lensometry, Kartometry, Tonometry, Visual Fields, OCTs, Amsler grids, Muscle Testing, Pupil Exams, Topography
  • Returns phone calls to patients, pharmacies and physicians daily.
  • High school diploma
  • Prefer at least one year experience as a scribe in the medical field, Ophthalmology preferred
  • Fluent in English, bilingual preferred
  • Two years experience in a medical office preferred
  • Excellent spelling ability, including medical terminology
  • Ability to document and apply correct ICD-10 and CPT Codes
  • Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrates respect for patients and staff
    Excellent verbal and written communication, demonstrates respect for patients and staff
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with strong attention to detail
  • Legible handwriting and computer literacy, effectively able to navigate NextGen software
