Pritchard Sports & Entertainment Group’s (Pritchard’s) Zero-Waste Squad is responsible for managing the collection, sorting, and disposal of waste generated in Acrisure Arena
Because the Arena is dedicated to being a zero-waste venue, the Zero-Waste Squad plays the most important role in achieving that goal. Pritchard needs Sorters that are in line with the Arena’s zero-waste vision. The responsibilities of a Sorter include:

Requirements

All sorters must go through zero-waste training by the Arena, and get certified before working an event.

If new hires are not sorting effectively and efficiently based on our zero-waste guidelines, they are subject to review and possible termination.

Sorters must keep contamination rates low.

Responsibilities

The collection team gradually transports Arena waste to the sorting area as they make their rounds. Typically, there will be a consistent stream of trash bags to sort throughout the day and night.

Currently, sorters must separate items into the following streams: (1) landfill, (2) compostable (food/drink, food packaging, cutlery, etc.), (3) bottles and cans, (4) cardboard, (5) office paper, (6) glass, (7) stretchy plastic, (8) batteries, (9) printer cartridges, (10) electronics, (11) zip-ties, (12) bulbs, and (13) Styrofoam .

New hires will learn the process during their training.

The sorting team must open every single item within every single trash bag before separating waste items into various streams. Fans tend to consolidate all their trash into a bag or a box.

For example, an unopened chip bag must be opened and the chips poured out. The chip bag is placed into the landfill stream and the chips into the compost stream.

Sorting shifts are divided into pre- and post-event. Pritchard is looking for staff to work the event and post-event shifts.

Post-event shifts can go as late as 8 AM . However, this is highly dependent on sorting effectiveness/efficiency and event attendance.
After each event, the waste is hauled to several different pla
ces depending on the stream (e.g
., compost, recyclables, landfill
, etc.
). The Arena receives feedback on the amount of contamination within each haul. If the contamination rate of a haul is high, the sorting team will be subject to review and possible termination.
