POSITION PURPOSE:

To safely assist the natural resource manager and work group with management of natural resources across all park regions by performing a wide range of skilled and semi-skilled tasks including invasive plant control, fire management, volunteer coordination, forestry, fisheries, and equipment operation.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

To operate sprayers, tractors, mowers, trucks and a variety of manual and power tools across all park regions while conducting natural resource management activities. Assist natural resource manager with forestry, grassland, wetland, and lake management. Assist with wildlife and fisheries activities district wide. Conduct fire management activities. Utilize volunteers and seasonal staff to achieve natural resource goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational Requirements: High school diploma and/or sufficient education level required to successfully fulfill job performance with an associate’s degree emphasizing natural resource management preferred.

Professional Experience: Three years of experience in natural resource management similar to work performed as a Park Worker.

Required Skills: Any combination equivalent to completion of sufficient education to assure the ability to learn the natural resource procedures at the level required for successful job performance, and three years of natural resource management related work experience and valid driver’s license.

DIMENSIONS:

Provide direction to subordinate regular staff, non-regular seasonal staff and work closely with park patrons in a highly visible park locations and isolated natural areas.

NATURE & SCOPE:

The Resource Technician reports to the natural resource manager. The Parks Division of JCPRD maintains the county park system with numerous high quality natural areas. This position’s performance will be affected by the weather, season, and special projects. These influences cause additional demands upon the position and create a challenging work environment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Through peak season, he/she is responsible for supervising activities, providing direction and coaching to seasonal employees and providing oversight to volunteers.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Performs natural resource management duties so that JCPRD natural areas are maintained at a consistent standard of quality throughout the park district.

2. Assists with and responds to work assignments, provides instructions in order to complete tasks in a timely manner with satisfactory job quality and quantity parameters.

3. Performs jobs and operates vehicles, equipment in a safe and proper manner.

4. Performs preventative maintenance and routine repair work on vehicles and equipment.

5. Participates in training and development programs.

6. Complies with personnel policy and code of conduct.
