Job Description Summary

The MTRAC Program Manager has responsibility for the management of the Advanced Materials Michigan Translational Research and Commercialization Program (MTRAC) in support of the Program Director. The Program Manager supports logistics and reporting activities for the grant program processes related to the preparation of applications for funding, selection of projects for funding by the external oversight committee, establishing new awards, assisting investigators with reporting, and developing reports to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) as the program sponsor

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Support researchers and the MTRAC Program Director in developing project proposals that are translational in nature and can result in new or improved products or processes, and presenting funding applications to the Oversight Committee (OC)
2. Prepare progress reports and presentations to MEDC and complete other reporting requirements on an as-needed basis
3. Support researchers in identifying sources of project matching funds
4. Organize and manage meetings of the OC to select projects for funding and monitor the performance of selected projects in order to to ensure the attainment of project goals and milestones
5. Build awareness and foster collaborations among public universities and research organizations throughout the State of Michigan
6. Support the Program Director in developing a close working relationship with MTRAC programs across the state in order to share best practices, identify mutually beneficial resources and assist MEDC in developing metrics and materials to ensure the success of the program
7. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
8. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

High School Diploma

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

One year in project management

Desirable Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related STEM Discipline

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and promote complex projects successfully
  • Experience in grants and grant program administration or management
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Demonstrated commitment to contribute to a safe work environment.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

  • Three to five years in technology commercialization
  • Experience with the I-Corps program
