How Is This Role Important to Our Work?
This position has accountability for growth, retention and profitability of their channel to effectively manage the strategic goals relating to margin and enrollment for the organization. This position will work with key internal business partners to insurer competitive product pricing and client results. Responsibility for development and management of internal sales or account management teams to successfully achieve department enrollment goals. This position represents all programs and services within the Blue Cross and its Affiliates product/service portfolio. This position is also responsible for the development and implementation of strategic plans that build upon and maintain positive relationships with Blue Cross with internal/external strategic channel partners.
A Day in the Life:
  • Manages the department including interviewing and hiring employees following required EEO and Affirmative Action guidelines and ensuring employees receive the accurate training. Conducts performance evaluation, and is responsible for managing employees, including skill and career development, policy administration, coaching on performance management and behavior, employee relations and cost control.
  • Development and implementation of statewide new sales and retention strategy for our strategic partners and distribution channel. Coach, develop, and empower staff to capitalize sales opportunities. Including ancillary sales and working closely with affiliated companies of Blue Cross.
  • Serves as a liaison with internal partners to communicate market needs and issues. This would include work on internal committees related to the market segment business plan or other items that directly impact our strategic partners, distribution channel and/or employer purchasers.
  • Participate in development of new products and assists in refining current products and pricing offered. This includes strategic development efforts around defining market desires, pricing expectations and competitor evaluations.
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with strategic partners and distribution channel providing consultation and issue resolution. Collaborate with internal and external business partners to ensure market plans are followed and modify as market input dictates. Monitor and identify improvement opportunities, resource needs and solutions.

Required Skills and Experiences:
  • 4+ years' related experience. All relevant experience including work, education, transferable skills, and military experience will be considered.
  • 1 + years of staff, team lead or project management experience!
  • Demonstrated business acuity with the ability to lead, get results and excel in a collaborative environment.
  • Proven track record to exercise good judgment and make decisions in the face of ambiguity and within tight timeframes.
  • Advanced knowledge of health care environment, local and national markets, innovative products, account management strategies, competitive drivers and practice design.
  • Familiarity with health plan product features, networks, underwriting principles, sales cycles, claims trends and other business drivers of sales and account retention.
  • Proven personnel motivation, mentoring and change leadership skills to empower and lead a skilled professional staff, including coaching, performance management, and organizational skills, to meet market plan objectives.
  • Strong communication and diplomacy skills, including written, oral and presentation skills.
  • Metro based position, Travel Required to service brokers/agents weekly; metro and/or statewide. Some national travel may be required.
  • Currently possesses or will acquire MN Resident Producer License in the lines of Life & Health/ Accident within 60 days.

Role designation definition: Teleworking is working full time remote. Hybrid is a combination of working onsite and remotely. Onsite is full-time onsite.
