Summary
: The Microbiology Technologist will perform waived, moderately complex, and high complexity clinical laboratory tests and analyses of human blood, urine, and other body fluids to obtain data for use in the diagnosis, management and treatment of disease and injury: the specific area of accountability will be the clinical microbiology laboratory.

Responsibilities:
  • Operating and maintaining standard lab instruments and equipment
  • Performing, analyzing, interpreting, and confirming microbiology tests
  • Performing some manual testing
  • Reporting test results by electronic systems
  • Monitor, control and assess ongoing test conditions, specimen quality, chemical and biologic reactions, and instrument function
  • Identifying common pathogens and atypical organisms
  • Correlating quantitative, biochemical, physiologic and morphologic data to verify results
  • Becoming proficient with new analyzers and procedures
  • Ensuring the accuracy of test results based on strict adherence to established standards, procedures and regulatory requirements for test analysis, quality control, and quality assurance
  • Following all safety and blood-borne pathogen/infection control guidelines and regulations for specimen handling and chemical use
  • Keep current on regulatory requirements
  • Participate in committees and task forces as needed
  • Ability to take rotating weekends
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, or biological science
  • ASCP/NCA/equivalent certification in Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science or Clinical Laboratory Science
  • Two years of full-time acceptable clinical laboratory experience preferably in microbiology within the past five years
  • Familiarity with Quality programs, processes, and tools
  • Ability to work with individuals at all organizational levels, including peers, team members, supervisors, managers, and other departments
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Self-directed, open to new learning experiences
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining quality and efficiency and to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Able to work rotating weekends
