PURPOSE
Working in the Life West Rugby program, the Men's Rugby Head Coach will provide coaching services, leadership, and strategic direction and oversight of the Men's Rugby program that includes Mens DI 15-a-side team, and any other 15-a-side team/s that participates in the same season.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reporting to the Athletics Director, with direct responsibility for the Life West Men's Rugby program, you are expected to display effective leadership and management of players, team coaches, support staff, volunteers, resource coaches, team staff and various stakeholders, both within the program, and externally in the wider community.
- You will be required to lead the Men's Rugby program to the best of your ability, enhancing the reputation of Life Chiropractic College West through the program’s athletic endeavors, enhancing team culture while adhering to the college’s core values, mission and chiropractic philosophy.
- You are expected to coach the program to a standard of excellence, and in doing so, you will: Enhance the knowledge, skill, ability and game understanding of all players and coaches; Ensure the team’s on-field performance is of the highest standard, and achieve success at national championship level by playing an exciting, fast-paced and innovative style of game;
- Exhibit ethical leadership when guiding the team, and interacting with various stakeholders;
- Ensure planning and delivery of training sessions, game strategy and tactics are at a professional standard;
- Provide effective, honest and accurate communication to all players and staff;
- Working closely with the Athletics Director, you will be required to plan the season calendar, book travel, manage program logistics, facilitate field rentals, purchase uniforms, schedule games, organize post-game activities and drive athlete recruitment;
- Working with the Marketing Dept. you will provide PR, Marketing and Communications data, information and assets (images, video, stories etc.) to help promote the rugby scholarship program, the team, and Life Chiropractic College West to a wider audience.
- You are required to submit a Weekly Report to the Athletics Director providing detailed insight into player and team progress, match results, and PR, marketing and communication outcomes, recruitment updates and any pertinent information relevant to the program;
- You will be responsible for administrative oversight of the program’s external association memberships including USA Rugby (USAR), Northern California Rugby Football Union (NCRFU), and all other sport specific associations the program is involved with.
- Ensure the program adheres to sports specific compliance when:
- inputting data of individual membership information and team rosters into the USAR Competition Management Systems (CMS);
- submitting program documentation, and player and team membership information required to comply with competition standards, league regulations, and relevant deadlines;
- following game management guidelines that allow the program to operate in accordance with regulatory body mandates;
- Ensure the program adheres to institutional compliance involving:
- Title IX statute and relevant Department of Education legislation;
- all relevant college policies, codes of conduct, scholarship program agreements, and Athletic Department operating procedures and tasks;
- monitoring student athlete academic progress, assessing cumulative GPA results;
- Ensure all members of the program, as ambassadors of the college, follow Diversity, Equity and Inclusion best practices, operate in a professional and courteous manner, and illustrate exemplary standards at all times when representing Life West, both on and off the field.
- Other responsibilities as required.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Registered USA Rugby coach membership (required)
- USOPC certified Safe Sport Coach Certification (required)
- Level 2 World Rugby Coach Certification (required)
- Level 3 World Rugby Coach Certification (preferred)
- Minimum of three (3) years of rugby-specific coaching experience, including two (2) years as Head Coach
- Advanced computer skills, with previous use of video/game coding software and performance analysis
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be reliable, dependable, and able to work independently
- Familiarity with Neural Education Development (NED) Coaching Pedagogic Model and Methodology

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Able to work physically outdoors in a sports team environment

- Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate sports equipment
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is performed in an outdoor and indoor environment with extensive contact with the public
