Medical Assistants provide critical support to the nurse practitioners and physicians in providing quality medical care to patients.

Responsibilities (included, but not limited to):


Home location will be Fordland Clinic in Fordland, MO but willing to float to Kimberling City and Springfield location on occasion to cover for vacations, time off, etc.

  • Take patient vital signs, including but not limited to blood pressure, pulse rate, height, and weight.
  • Room patients and establish a reason for the visit. Document chief complaint.
  • Work collaboratively with the provider for the coordination of quality health care for clinic patients
  • Manage patient flow with the correct balancing of scheduled appointments and walk-ins according to the number and skills of providers present
  • Clean medical equipment as necessary. Routinely check oxygen levels in the oxygen tank.
  • Prepare exam rooms and assist the provider with procedures
  • Prepare patients for exams/procedures
  • Collect and maintain accurate, legible patient documents as well as EMR records
  • Handle patient phone calls while maintaining compliance with state and federal laws and regulations governing the legal scope of practice of medical assistants
  • Clean and restock exam rooms; clean and sterilize equipment; collect specimens for analysis and/or biopsy.
  • Draw blood samples for requested lab tests and prepare specimens to send to the reference laboratory.
  • Maintain records of the testing done in the laboratory and report laboratory testing results to the medical staff.
  • Strictly follow procedures for immunization tracking
  • Maintain inventory of the medical supplies for laboratory and exam rooms.
  • Assure that all drugs and biologicals are properly stored at all times.
  • Perform x-rays and EKGs as directed by medical staff and maintain x-ray records.
  • Schedule tests and referral appointments as needed. Notify patients of appointment times.
  • The Certified Medical Assistant is also required to maintain CEU's, as required.
  • Return phone calls from patients in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Participate in meetings, webinars, conferences, and demonstrate a genuine desire to develop strategies for improved clinic operations and a high level of patient care.
  • Fully comply with the clinic compliance program.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High school graduate
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant, preferred
  • 2 or more years of experience in the medical field may be adequate instead of a MA certification
  • BLS/CPR certified

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to meet the physical requirements and demands of an active position, including but not limited to:

  • STANDING/WALKING - Up to 90% of the work may be spent walking or standing on tile floors.
  • SITTING - Up to 10% of the day may be spent sitting while performing computer and telephone tasks.
  • CARRYING - Up to 5% of the time may require carrying (5 lbs.) charts, equipment and supplies.
  • PUSHING/PULLING - No more than 5% of the time may be spent pushing or pulling equipment.
  • REACHING/STRETCHING - Up to 10% of the workday may be spent reaching for files.
  • HANDLING - Must be able to perform hand and wrist movements in performing administrative tasks.
  • FEELING - Normal tactile feeling is required for all tasks.
  • TALKING - Average ability is required in working with staff and patients.
  • HEARING - Average ability is required in communicating with staff and patients.
  • SEEING - Average ability is required to perform all supervisory and patient care tasks.

Work hours: Full-time, hourly position - In order to maintain full-time status, a minimum of 30 hours per week on average are required, though 36 to 40 hours a week will be expected for this position. Hours are subject to change. Clinic hours are 8:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday, and 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Saturday. This position may be scheduled to work any of the days the clinic is open (Monday through Saturday) and may be scheduled to arrive 15 minutes prior to opening and may be scheduled to leave one hour after closing, but may leave earlier if work is complete.
