MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN III
Our Mechanical Technician III performs skilled mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work on building systems and equipment for the Facilities Management Department.
Work is performed in accordance with standard procedures and practices of the various trades and requires judgment and initiative in detecting the causes of malfunctions, in solving problems and in handling emergencies. May direct the work of others.
Reports to the Senior Mechanical Technician or other designated supervisor.
Working for the County as the Mechanical Tech III offers the following:
- Monday-Friday work week
- On-call 1 week a month
- Off nights and weekends (except the on-call week)

Example of Duties
- Diagnoses mechanical and electrical problems in heating, plumbing, and air conditioning systems.
- Performs maintenance and servicing of a variety of water, ventilation, heating and air conditioning systems, water and sewer pumps, etc.; changes fan belts; replaces expired parts; replaces or cleans air filters.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing, heating and air conditioning systems, and various electrical systems, including service panels, control circuits, voltage up to 480 AC, lights and ballast.
- Performs emergency work and snow removal duties.
- Maintains department records and files.
- Operates various hand tools, power tools, gauges, and equipment.
- May assist in repairs and troubleshooting of fire alarm.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Possession of a high school diploma/GED, supplemented by course work in HVAC, electrical and plumbing technical work.
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities

Special Requirements
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in maintenance of HVAC systems, with a Type III or Universal Refrigerant Certification is preferred.
Certificate or formal training in one or more of three trades (electrical, plumbing, or HVAC) is preferred.
Possession of a valid driver’s license; possess and maintain a driving record that meets established Gloucester County Driving Standards.
Must pass a post offer, pre-employment physical examination. Employee may be subject to subsequent physical examinations to ensure he/she meets job-related physical requirements.
