MANUFACTURING PRODUCTION ENGINEER (WAAM/DED)

Phillips Corporation is growing the team at its Danville, Virginia additive manufacturing lab. This one-of-a-kind program is being developed to support the rapid digitization of the U.S. Navy supply chain in support of the new Columbia-class submarine.

As the Manufacturing Production Engineer, you will lead the shop team and work closely with materials and process scientists to produce proof-of-concept and test parts that are being designed and certified using an array of additive manufacturing technologies (DMLS, WAAM, DED, Cold Spray, and Friction Stir).

PhD or MS-level knowledge of welding, and practical experience with manufacturing process and metal-forming post processing will be keys to your success in this role. G-Code and 5-axis milling knowledge are needed to be the "expert's expert" in the shop and for the production side of this vital project.

You will be working with a team of other scientists and technicians working to accelerate the production of the submarine fleet by certifying parts, machines, and processes to move specific parts into the Navy's additive manufacturing catalog.

Your work will also include:

• Being the go-to person when it comes to operation of multiple Additive Manufacturing Systems (Powder Bed, DED/WAAM, Friction Stir) on the shop floor.
• Being highly capable of orienting applications in modeling software.
• Having an expert level ability to use MAGICS to orientate parts for quality builds.
• Exhibiting superb understanding of alloys.
• Masterfully leading a team of Additive Technicians and Engineers whose sole focus is to build applications in multiple additive technologies.
• Bringing out-of-the-box thinking and understanding of production manufacturing.
