Petoskey Plastics is seeking a Maintenance Manager for its plant located in Morristown, Tennessee.

Position summary: The Maintenance Manager plans, directs, leads, teaches and assists the maintenance techs and manages activities related to the maintenance of equipment, facilities, and operational support. Improve on lean manufacturing techniques, develop plant-wide trouble shooting skills, operate the parts inventory within a min/max system based on prior history and improve the preventative maintenance system to reduce downtime and increase productivity.

Knowledge and Skills preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science, Engineering or related field
  • 10 yrs. experience in plastics processing or management
  • Problem solving & trouble shooting skills
  • Strong effective communication & time management
  • Training / teaching /developing
  • MS Office; MS Project; Database
  • Mechanical, Electrical, Pneumatic & Hydraulic skills
  • Coordinating and scheduling
  • PLC understanding
  • Ability to lay-out technical projects
  • Excellent organizational skills for recordkeeping
  • Ability to communicate with multiple stakeholders

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate daily maintenance team communication meetings between night shifts and day shifts
  • Prioritize Maintenance Technician workload and projects through standardized work order system
  • Evaluate accountability of each maintenance tech and plan skill development for each team member
  • Review & Verify work order completion with internal customers (Production & Shift Managers, Quality, Print)
  • Improve existing Preventative Maintenance system in conjunction with Engineering Manager
  • Analyze downtime; root cause analysis of repetitive repairs; serve as technical troubleshooting resource
  • Manage parts; bar coding/organization to ensure accurate inventory; monitor critical facility equipment
  • Contact local venders for machine break downs and repair service requisition spare parts
  • Manage contractors for facility work, equipment modifications, work standards for projects, and costs
  • Facility and grounds upkeep including seasonal buildings and grounds maintenance
  • Communicate projects and priorities to Engineering Manager & Plant Leadership
  • Attend Plant Leadership Team meetings as necessary; communicate & motivate team members
  • Manage maintenance budget, projects, inventory, headcount and labor costs
  • Collaborate with Purchasing to select venders for projects and negotiate contract terms
  • Communicate project status – actual versus budget / timelines for new equipment start-up
  • Upgrade equipment for speed/quality, resin unloading and product enhancements
  • Work with local utility companies for plant related problems

Operational Support:

  • OSHA regulatory compliance for plants standards; Active Safety Committee member; Promote Safety
  • Keep Environmental, Health & Safety reporting in compliance: Haz. Mat., Storm Water Management, etc…
  • Work with operators/sales/quality/manufacturing for machine/equipment concerns
  • Training development, coordination or delivery of new & existing equipment training
  • Coordinate vender training on new equipment with operators and maintenance
  • Monthly management of VOC database ensure accuracy with MSDS as inks change
  • Waste water monitoring review from city inspection – Manage Industrial User Permit
  • Other projects as assigned by management

Job Location/Working Conditions/Equipment:

70% of time on production floor communicating with the operators, working with Production Shift Managers, directing technicians and evaluating production equipment. Work in manufacturing & office environment, climbing towers, lifting, walking, standing, bending. Work with various extrusion and converting equipment in hot and cold climates.
