Primary Responsibilities:
The MA Mentor is an essential role within Family Care Partners. This position will assist in the growth, training and development of our Medical Assistant. The MA Mentor is key to offering guidance through positive one on one interactions and group trainings
This position requires an ability to engage, educate and train our employees and a strong ability in building relationships. The MA mentor should demonstrate good listening skills, value a diversity of perspectives, be non-judgmental, able to give constructive feedback and be honest and candid. The mentor will be well versed in all areas of the clinic and be able to share their knowledge and act as a role model for the team.
Job Description:
  • Individual will be well versed in NEXTGEN and all aspects of using the system
  • Assist with training new team members, answering any questions they may have, addressing their concerns
  • Train MA’s on proper procedure for obtaining blood pressure, pulse rate, respirations, pulse oximetry, patient temperature, adult and infant height and weight, proper procedure for measuring head circumference ad documenting LMP.

    • Order lab and radiology procedures
    • Look up and print Patient Education
    • Request a referral
    • Order and charge for supplies/procedures(order management)
    • Document immunizations
    • Prepare forms and notes (DOH, Letters/Documents, Honoring Choices, Work/School Notes)
  • Train proper procedure for performing
    • Visual acuity
    • EKG
    • Spirometry
    • Assisting with female pelvic exam(room and equipment set up)
    • Specimen processing
    • Placing and reading PPD
  • Train proper procedure for
    • Administering an injection
    • Reconstituting immunizations using proper diluent
    • Administering an oral medication, ear drops, eye drops
    • Administering oxygen: nasal cannula, face mask, bag valve mask
    • Administering medication via nebulizer
    • Disposing of expired or wasted medication
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of VFC (steps, documenting)
  • Train proper procedure for minor surgery
    • Patient preparation
    • Setting up sterile field
    • Instrument selection
    • Demonstration of sterile technique
    • Surgical clean up
  • Proper procedure for care of surgical instruments
    • Cleaning, disinfecting, packing, sterilization
    • Operation of an autoclave
  • Train proper procedure to irrigate an ear and an eye
  • Train proper procedure to apply dressings, bandages and wraps
  • Train proper procedure to apply sterile dressing
  • Train proper procedure to obtain swab specimens- rapid flu, rapid strep, rapid covid, wound culture
  • Train proper procedure to collect and process specimens
  • Train proper procedure to dispose of biohazardous waste
  • Train how to navigate MA dashboards
  • Basic knowledge of CCM/TCM
  • Learn from Dr. Warren about Value Based Reimbursement
  • Training MA’s to check ERx 2 times a day
  • Train MA team leads on new policies and procedures
  • Take genuine interest in helping team succeed
  • Devote time to MA team and be available when requested
  • Share their knowledge and experience to benefit the team
  • Follow up on teams progress
  • Build good rapport within the team
  • Ask open ended “how” and “what” questions with the team
  • Offer opportunities to problem solve and exchange ideas
  • Present opportunities the team may not have recognized on their own
  • Motivate teams to put their best foot forward
Minimum Requirements
  • Must be a Certified Medical Assistant
  • 3-5 years of MA experience
  • 2 Years’ experience as an trainer or instructor
  • Have strong intrapersonal skills and ability to work with people of different backgrounds
  • Apply sound problem solving skills to ongoing challenges
  • Strong organizing, planning and prioritizing skills
  • Sensitivity to different cultural working environments
  • Capacity to operate both as a team player in large diverse teams as well as individually
  • Demonstrate exceptional coaching and mentoring ability
  • Self-motivated and maintain sound levels of work ethic
  • Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care
