Essential Duties: This is a clerical position in the Circulation Division of the Provo City Library at Academy Square. Individuals appointed to this position will be required to perform customer service tasks, including checking in and out materials, accepting fines, answering phones, inputting computer data, processing library card applications, greeting and assisting children and adults with facility and material use, and handling money in a cashiering capacity. Other tasks may include routine, recurring tasks such as re-shelving books, washing and performing simple repairs on books, and other related work as required.
Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or its equivalent. Library experience preferred and strong public relations/customer service skills desired. Ability to read, spell, alphabetize, count, follow directions, and interact with the public at a level sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
Selection Factors: Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System. Ability to operate computer and office equipment; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; develop and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and superiors; quickly and accurately perform work; organize assigned work and develop effective work methods; handle money; deal with the public effectively and courteously; input data; perform duties in a manner demonstrating respect, integrity, courtesy, and kindness towards fellow workers; and demonstrate a high level of commitment to the principles of positive customer service.
Wage: $12.00 per hour. Payment will be by direct deposit.
Hours/Schedule: Approximately 20-24 hours per week. Weeknights and weekends will be required. Specific schedule will be discussed at interview and may be subject to change.
Physical/Environmental Factors: Requires bending, stretching, shelving books (on eight-foot shelves), pushing and pulling book carts that weigh up to 175-200 pounds, standing for up to four hours at a time, lifting up to 25 pounds, and dealing with the public in sometimes stressful situations.
Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job-related experience, skills, knowledge, and education. Skills test may be required. Hiring for this position may be based largely upon an oral interview.
Pre-employment Testing: Prior to appointment, applicant will be required to successfully pass a drug screening and background investigation. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug test results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six months.
