Laboratory Assistant NO FIT Job at Cone Health
Overview:
Responsible for a variety of customer service interactions, assigned clerical tasks, and duties related to accessioning, processing/preparation, and distribution of lab specimens to facilitate continuous departmental operations. Trained/qualified staff will have additional responsibility to perform, evaluate and release results for CLIA designated moderate complexity testing.
Responsibilities:
Comply with regulatory standards. Demonstrate and adhere to hospital and lab safety and compliance policies and procedures. Complete annual competency by due date.

Performs clinical functions, managing phones, manage applicable reports, file/store slides/specimens as required, etc. Ensures appropriate response and follow-up on all customer service issues. Practices effective and efficient use of supplies/reagents and actively participates in inventory control.

Performs all processes associated with specimens received. Includes review of orders, ensuring patient labeling and positive patient identification, accessioning in the lab computer, assessing specimen acceptability and processing according to the test requirements.

Performs and documents equipment start up, routine instrument maintenance, and quality control checks as applicable to ensure accuracy of specimen testing.

Perform routine procedures and maintain benchmarks for quality and quantity according to established laboratory policies and procedures. Work area is maintained at all times.

Utilize available resources for computer resolution to assure optimal outcome. Utilize lab/hospital systems in order to accurately document lab activity according to established site protocols.

Prioritize assigned duties and workload to ensure completion meets established turn around times.

EDUCATION:
REQUIRED:
HS diploma or equivalent
PREFERRED:
Associate degree in a chemical, physical or biological science
