This 12-month, full-time, professional position will work with educators and districts to develop staff capacity with individual and classroom behavior management strategies, data collection and interventions. The Behavior Intervention Specialist will assist (through training, coaching, and technical assistance) in improving academic and social/behavioral outcomes for all students, but especially student with disabilities, with the development and implementation of effective behavior management strategies, in conducting and coordinating Functional Behavior Assessments and in developing Behavior Intervention Plans that address students’ inappropriate behaviors and provide a means to help the students become more academically successful. This position will require travel in the northeast region, as well as in-state travel to state meetings.
The successful candidate will—
· assist educators in implementing effective, evidence-based practices and behavior programs/processes designed to positively impact graduation and dropout rates.
· train districts to design behavior intervention plans that address classroom organization, effective instruction, social skills instruction, and behavior modification.
· deliver high-quality training to LEA staff on evidence-based practices using DESE-approved materials.
· attend professional development opportunities applicable to Behavior Intervention Specialists work as requested/approved by DESE.
· have a thorough knowledge of the content required in their position and be able to demonstrate a high level of skills in development, presentation, meeting facilitation, coaching and delivery of HQPD to adult learners.
· have a working knowledge of technology and be able to use it in development, presentation, and delivery of training and technical assistance.
· participate in developing, refining, and/or revising training and support materials when requested by DESE.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required include—
· BS in Education, School Psychology, Psychology, Counseling, Behavior Science, or related field, or a License as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
· Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a school setting as a teacher, counselor, or interventionist
· Training in Trauma-Informed Care, or the ability to complete training within 6 months
· Experience in coaching, collaborating, presenting, consulting, &/or facilitating
· Excellent communication skills
· Ability to use technology to enhance Professional Development
Preferred include—
- Knowledge of School-wide Positive Behavior Support (SW-PBS); Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS); Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) for All
· Knowledge of techniques needed to successfully complete effective Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA), function-based interventions, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and Manifestation Determinations
· Knowledge of research-based instructional and behavior intervention strategies and ability to implement them effectively
· Ability to use assessment and assessment data to inform instruction and interventions
