The UWM Center for International Education seeks a full-time (100% FTE) Immigration Coordinator (International Education Coordinator) to provide immigration advising services to all international students including sponsored international students. The individual in this position:
- Provides a welcoming and supportive environment for international students at UW-Milwaukee
- Provides information and professional guidance on F-1 and J-1 visa status issues to international students with a special focus on sponsored students
- Develops partnerships with sponsored students and funding agencies to ensure success at UWM
- Serve as a liaison between international admissions, students, Registrar and Bursar Offices, academic advisors and funding agencies
- Exercise independent judgment in interpreting and applying U.S. government rules and regulations
The position requires the employee to:
- Engage in continuing education as regulations and best practices periodically change
- Clearly explain complex concepts orally and in writing
- Diplomatically resolve problems and conflicts
- Provide leadership in planning and implementation of orientation and other program activities for international students to assist in their adjustment to the U.S. and campus life
- Interact with other campus offices working with international students
- Work collaboratively and respectfully with colleagues
The individual in this position is part of the team that coordinates the university’s compliance with federal regulations by gathering and maintaining Department of Homeland Security-mandated information on international students and scholars and managing timely and accurate data reporting. This individual reports to the Director of International Student & Scholar Services.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Citizen or PR to serve as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Official (ARO)
- Strong ability to create written communication that is informative and clear as demonstrated in the cover letter addressing minimum and preferred qualifications
- 2 years of experience working in an academic environment
- Master’s degree
- Experience working with diverse student populations
- 2+ years’ experience working with international students
- Strong computer skills using PC Platforms and databases
- Experience with PeopleSoft, SEVIS and/or Terra Dotta
