INSURANCE DEFENSE ASSOCIATE POSITION

Wheeler Upham, P.C., located in Grand Rapids, Michigan is looking for a full-time associate with one or more years’ experience to join its practice. The ideal candidate should have an entrepreneurial spirit and seek the rewards and benefits of growing their practice within a small law firm. Candidates need to be willing to litigate and practice in a number of the firm’s practice areas, but primarily insurance defense.

Qualified applicants should be prepared to engage in the litigation of first and third party no-fault claims, personal injury claims, and insurance coverage claims and have the ability to handle all aspects of the litigation process. Candidates should have experience with development of case strategy, legal research, preparation of responsive pleadings, briefs and memoranda, and communicating with clients regarding legal strategies and courses of action. Candidates must have experience preparing cases by gathering evidence, preparing written discovery, taking and defending depositions, and attending court hearings and mediation. Ideal candidates will have experience preparing cases for trial. Trial experience is a plus.

Candidates need to be willing to relocate to Grand Rapids, Michigan. Grand Rapids was rated #16 in Best Places to Live and #11 in Cheapest Places to Live by U.S. News and World Report, 2022-2023. Wheeler Upham is Grand Rapids’ oldest law firm and has been a leader in the Grand Rapids legal community since 1883.

Candidates must be admitted to the State Bar of Michigan or able to qualify for admission. Strong academic credentials and excellence in written and oral communication are required.
