Job Description:
A global destination for artists and arts enthusiasts, Interlochen Center for the Arts nurtures creativity through five dynamic platforms: Interlochen Arts Camp, the renowned summer arts program; Interlochen Arts Academy, the nation’s premier fine arts boarding high school; Interlochen Presents, a producer of more than 600 annual performances by internationally celebrated guest artists, Interlochen students, and faculty; Interlochen Public Radio, two listener-supported, 24-hour public radio stations (classical music and news); and Interlochen College of Creative Arts, a convener for lifelong learning in the arts.
Job Summary:
Interlochen Center for the Arts seeks a creative, compassionate educator who can teach mathematics in a boarding arts high school. The successful candidate will have the ability and willingness to teach mathematics; candidates who can also teach high school chemistry are preferred. The normal course load is five courses with 2-3 preps. There are no residence hall responsibilities. The successful candidate will have a background in teaching using a variety of modalities. All students have laptops, so familiarity with using educational technology is essential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The instructor will teach five hours of classes daily, with the ability and willingness to teach everything from Algebra 1 to Precalculus. Preference will be given to those who can also teach high school science.
  • In addition to classes and regular department meetings, academic instructors are also expected to provide a two-hour evening tutorial one evening per week.
  • All faculty are expected to work with the students outside of their teaching responsibilities, compensating for parent absence and assisting the residence hall staff in the development of students’ total experience at Interlochen.
  • Faculty are also called upon by graduating seniors to write letters of recommendation for college admissions.
  • Serve as co-advisor to a small group of students who meet weekly for 30 minutes
  • Hold weekly office hours
  • Maintain a course page online through Canvas, take attendance daily in each class, keep electronic gradebook up to date, and prepare timely and thorough grade reports
  • Attend department, division, and full faculty meetings
  • Participate in all-school events at the end of the school year, as well as periodically throughout the semester
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Experience and Skills:
Education:A bachelor’s degree in mathematics or math education is required, and a master’s degree is preferred.
Experience:

  • Experience teaching high school students preferred. Teaching at an independent school, is preferred but not required.
  • A strong background in teaching using a variety of modalities.
  • A strong interest and willingness to collaborate with colleagues, both inside and outside the math/science department is important.
  • The ability to work successfully with highly creative students with diverse learning styles is important as is experience and/or an appreciation for the arts.

Equipment Familiarity: Familiarity with the following technology / software / programs preferred:

  • Google suite
  • Canvas or another Learning Management System
  • Familiarity with academic content management systems is helpful.

Work Environment:
Work is performed primarily in a standard office and classroom environment with extensive internal and external stakeholder contact
