SJS Executives, LLC (SJS), also doing business as SJS Industrial, is currently seeking a talented Certified Industrial Hygienist for an upcoming contract for a federal organization in San Joaquin.
SJS is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) with 250 employees coast to coast and a headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia; it specializes in professional services to support federal and military organizations.
Responsibilities:
- Preforming comprehensive occupational safety and health evaluations in accordance with regulatory requirements and DoD standards, ordinances, and codes.
- Ability to anticipate and recognize health hazards in industrial and administrative work environments.
- Assessing and sampling a variety of complex activities in a wide range of settings.
- Expertise operating various analyzing and monitoring instruments.
- Developing effective solutions for ensuring the protection of workers to the maximum level.
- Assessing proposed and ongoing construction projects, attending meetings, and preparing written reports.
- Developing curricula and conducting training for a variety of occupational safety and health topics including noise hazards, personal protective equipment (PPE), electrical hazards, annual asbestos awareness, annual lead awareness, permit required confined spaces (PRCS), fall protection, sanitation, hazard communication, and ergonomics.
- Providing inspections of the FMWR Child Development Center food service facility, which requires proficiency with U.S. Army Technical Bulletin 530 (Tri-Service Food Code) and health and sanitation inspections of the Fitness Center as needed.
- Providing support for the DDSJ PRCS program that includes approximately 400 permit required confined spaces, including 255 storm and sanitary sewer manholes, approximately 155 dock levelers, along with various pits, vaults, mechanical compactors, and water tanks.
- Performing workplace survey assessments and evaluations.
- Performing monitoring, sampling, testing, and calibration operations.
- Performing occupational safety and health investigations.
- Training and fit testing for approximately 140 DDJC personnel currently enrolled in the DDJC Respiratory Protection Program.
- Conducting ergonomic assessments, training, and team projects, and, submitting written reports to the COR.
The Certified Industrial Hygienist must have specific industrial work experience in the following:
- Recognition, evaluation, and control of noise hazards in both industrial and office settings. Assessing the extent of the noise problem, setting objectives for a noise abatement program and develop solutions for controlling exposure to excessive noise.
- Assessing the level of risk to workers from exposures to chemical, physical and biological agents in an industrial setting (e.g., industrial welding/torching/soldering, hazardous materials, crate/pallet/box fabrication) based on regulatory standards. Making recommendations based on a combination of observation, interviews, and measurements of both the levels of energy or air contaminants arising from a process or work operation, and the effectiveness of control measures currently in place.
- Development of ergonomic programs, conducting ergonomic evaluations and training, and problem solving in office and industrial/warehouse settings.
- Working in collaboration with the site occupational health clinician and safety manager to perform periodic assessments of industrial processes and materials serving as a basis for recommendations for appropriate medical monitoring.
- Conducting workplace assessments requested by a physician or the Office of Worker's Compensation due to potential workplace exposure claims filed by Government personnel. Follow up on medical complaints/concerns from Government personnel to verify or refute possible exposures (e.g., Valley Fever, Hearing Loss).
- Working knowledge and experience interpreting applicable regulatory standards, pertinent Federal/State laws or codified regulations specific to industrial operations such as 29 CFR 1910, 29 CFR 1926, Mil Specs, NFPA, ASHRAE, and ASTM, DoD Instructions, and DLA Instructions and manuals.
Requirements:
- Five (5) or more years of experience as an Industrial Hygienist
- Certified by the Board for Global EHS Credentialing.
- Must be able to successfully pass a drug test and a thorough background check for access onto a military installation; please note the background check for this position extends past 7 years, in conformance with federal law and US Department of Justice guidelines for work on a military installation.
