POSITION SUMMARY

Work with HTC Director of Safety and Operations to operate, maintain and assist with maintenance and repairs associated with the Hyperbaric Chamber System, engineering equipment, facilities, and all other ancillary support equipment within the Hyperbaric Treatment Center. Maintain and/or develop credentials and competencies; participate in HTC training and safety drills.

  • Flexible hours, including part-time and on-call shifts, available.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

  • Assist experienced Operators to manage multi-place hyperbaric chambers of various system configurations during elective and emergency treatments of patients using established treatment table protocols as prescribed by the attending physician. Calculates and configures appropriate decompression schedules for all personnel in a hyperbaric environment, drafting a treatment time schedule that optimizes working times of Care Providers while operating independently and providing safe, conservative decompression times
  • Performs and assists with scheduled maintenance, repair, and preservation of chamber systems, engineering equipment, facility spaces, and all other ancillary equipment pertaining to Hyperbaric Treatment Center
  • Calculate mix gas formulas, replenish Nitrox cylinders, and analyze gas combinations for percentage consistency for use during deep diving treatments. Work with high pressure (2200psi) air, oxygen, and mix gas cylinders and other high pressure piping, valves, gauges, reliefs, and components
  • Learn the process for procurement and inventory of supplies, to include spare parts, rebuild kits, major components, chemicals, etc. used for chamber system operations and maintenance
  • Assists with coordinating facility maintenance and repairs through KMC Facilities Department in providing a clean, safe, and operational clinical facility for all patients and staff
  • Participates in HTC training and safety drills
  • Participates in the education of fellows, residents and medical students as appropriate
  • Maintains clinical certification and completes annual competencies
  • Complies with all legal requirements and UHP policies
  • Assists in patient care as necessary and other duties as assigned and commensurate with training


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education/Training:

Minimum:

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Training as a mechanic familiar with air compressors, pipefitting, welding, and oxygen gas mixture
  • SCUBA Certification and/or familiarity with hyperbaric environment
  • BLS or CPR Certification

Preferred:

  • Certified Hyperbaric Technologist

Experience:

Minimum:

  • Two years experience in diving and/or hyperbaric environments
  • Experience in military or commercial diving, specialized in chamber systems, compressors and ancillary support equipment

Skills Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with dive tables, national codes and standards pertaining to hyperbaric chamber systems and national occupational safety standards
  • Familiarization with compressor, engineering, and pressure systems maintenance and repair
  • Knowledge of oxygen and other gas mixture handling procedures as it pertains to chamber treatments
  • Basic knowledge of diving medicine, diving physics, and patient medical care

Factors for Success in the Position:

  • Able to draft time schedule to optimize inside working time under pressure and required decompression time
  • Demonstrated ability to work with public, other staff and health professionals.
  • Good manual dexterity (i.e. ability to work with equipment that requires the timely manipulation of valves and connectors)
  • Possess mechanical skills with ability to recognize, troubleshoot, and solve technical problems
