Home Retention & Support Coordinator - Homefinding (Manhattan) Job at The New York Foundling
The Home Retention and Support Coordinator (HRSC) will implement evidence-based practices aligned with the Home Away From Home innovations in linking foster parent retention with foster parent recruitment by coordinating foster parent training and support. The Foundling’s HRSC will act as a liaison between active foster parents, case planning units, home-finding staff and training to ensure concerns are addressed and agency goals are met of improved customer service, reduced placement disruptions and foster home movements and increased foster home retention and recruitment.
Clinical Oversight
- Utilize motivational interviewing skills and a trauma-informed approach to working with foster parents, case planning staff, and youth in foster care and be prepared to use crisis intervention skills to de-escalate conflicts when necessary.
- Facilitate monthly foster parent support groups (i.e. Foundling Family Network) that will include agency updates on guidance and resources, therapeutic training refreshers, and a collaborative forum for peer support and networking of foster parents by borough.
- Participate in internal case management meetings and placement preservation conferences with program staff and foster parents when appropriate to advocate on behalf of foster parent concerns and identify where training and support is needed for preserving placements and retaining quality foster homes.
- Conduct strength-based outreach, questionnaires, and retention surveys with current foster parents and collaborate with Quality Performance and Compliance in agency-wide foster parent satisfaction surveys
- Analyze and assess effective strategies based on data received from surveys to identify customer service strengths and areas needing improvement to inform home recruitment and retention strategies.
- Assist resource parent coordinators, if necessary, with replacement requests in assessing foster home viability and availability
Administrative Oversight
- Coordinate, coach and schedule Foster Parent Ambassadors (foster parents trained to speak at recruitment events, orientations, MAPP sessions and speak about their experiences fostering when the agency has media inquiries) and Foster Parent Coaches (experienced foster parents who can offer behavioral techniques and peer support to new or struggling foster parents). This process includes processing and tracking of stipends and incentives with Home-Finding Administrative Coordinator.
- Enter foster parent contacts and training in BINTI, CNNX and EVOLV database systems in a timely manner
- Attend monthly Home-Finding team meetings and home development meetings to share foster parent survey feedback, track Home Away From Home target progress, and coordinate Foster Parent Ambassador support of recruitment efforts.
- Assist with updating and maintaining foster parent home records as needed.
Job Responsibilities
- Closely collaborate with pre-certification MAPP facilitators, therapeutic trainers, KEEP facilitators and all Foundling training providers to track and match current foster parents with targeted training needs.
- Partner with the Communication Department in drafting and disseminating a quarterly New York Foundling Family Network newsletter to include foster parent spotlights, tips and resources, and schedules of training and recruitment activities.
- Attend ACS trainings, stakeholder meetings, and other external forums when pertaining to evidence-based models for enhanced foster home retention strategies.
- Assist with foster parent support and recognition activities.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor and administrators.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's in Social Work or Related field.
Preferred Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in foster care settings, preferably with experience as a trainer
- Bilingual Spanish / English ability preferred
- Excellent public speaking and inter-personal communication skills required
- Compassionate, warm, empathetic and a love for working with people
Preferred Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of OCFS and ACS foster home requirements and foster parent rights and responsibilities.
- Ability to work with diverse population
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills and excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, spreadsheets for data tracking, BINTI online tools and professional platforms such as Microsoft Teams for communicating with Foundling foster parents
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and work well with people
- Ability to work from a strength-based, trauma-informed, youth development lens

Pay: $50,000.00 - $53,500.00 per year
