NOTE: This is an entry-level assistantship position. It is not a trimming position, and it does not involve food preparation. Potential hires may become hybrid employees working in both the Post-Production and Cultivation departments as the business' staffing needs dictate.
Please read the entire post, if your application does not follow the prompt it will be immediately disregarded.
We are seeking conscientious and organized candidates interested in scientifically-grounded production of Cannabis in a brand-new state of the art facility.
Restaurant and food service professionals looking to switch industries are encouraged to apply. We consider cannabis flower to be a psychoactive food-grade product, and we submit to rigorous lab testing for contaminants. Knowledge of basic food prep or restaurant-grade food service is highly applicable, even though WE DO NOT MANUFACTURE FOOD PRODUCTS AT OUR FACILITY. This is not a trimming position, but some aspects of cannabis finishing, sorting and packaging are to be expected. Tired of post-pandemic customer service? This could be an exit route for you.
Candidates must exhibit passion and knowledge toward cannabis and cannabis products, but WE DO NOT WANT APPLICATIONS FROM "MASTER GROWERS" OR FORMER "CULTIVATION DIRECTORS". This is an entry-level position. You must understand and be interested in what we are producing, and you must be able to treat the plant, as well as the facility and the people that work in it, with respect. We do not expect you to know everything, and we would prefer that you don’t claim to. We are willing to train the right candidate who is looking to enter the industry from other detail-oriented, quality-control centered positions. The Post-Harvest position is an opportunity to assist in building a department’s culture and SOP’s through trial and error, innovation and experimentation.
Candidates must work well independently with minimal supervision and be able to demonstrate this with work history, as well as the ability to work in close collaboration with the Post-Harvest Supervisor and other department management as needed. Personal integrity, humility, a sense of humor, natural organization, cleanliness, direct communication, foresight and planning are more important than cannabis experience for this position. Candidates must be able to read highly specific written instructions, be able to communicate explicitly in writing and through verbal contact, and must have very legible and neat handwriting.
The Post-Harvest team is expected to finish, store, weigh and inventory a living product that requires months of tedious cultivation prior to arriving in our department. A moment of inattention or a skipped step in a process can easily destroy weeks of work and thousands of dollars in product.
Candidates must be willing to perform sometimes tedious tasks in environments that range from warm, humid, and loud to cold, dry and quiet. Working and walking on elevated platforms, ladders and scissor lifts will sometimes be required as this is a vertical-farming facility with limited floor space. Many tasks require repetitive crouching, lifting, carrying, leaning or bending. Some days will be full of physical work, while other days will be stationary.
Associates will come into contact with plant material ranging from live resin to dry dust - those with allergic sensitivities to cannabis or having chronic asthma will find this position extremely uncomfortable. Associates will be expected to wear dedicated shoes and clothing that they do not mind getting covered in plant material. You will smell like cannabis every day that you leave the facility. Conversely, we expect you to be fragrance-free, as colognes, perfumes and scented hair products interfere with the ability to perceive indoor environments and product quality. Candidates will be expected to wear nitrile gloves for 90% of the required tasks; especially long fingernails or acrylic extensions will not be conducive.
Ideal candidates will have experience in performing repetitive tasks with precision and attention to quality (kitchen prep, sorting, and minutely detailed trade skills). Natural empathy toward plants and clean habits are highly valuable, as well as the ability to recognize and differentiate strains of cannabis that may appear nearly identical.
Cleaning is a major part of the job and candidates will be expected to utilize caustic chemicals in pure concentrations, including acids, alcohols and vaporized chlorine. PPE and HEPA filters are utilized and available on site.
General tasks will include but are not limited to: harvesting, weighing and hanging live plants, monitoring humidity and temperature, sweeping and mopping floors, wiping down walls, moving and stacking bins, bucking cannabis buds from stalks, taking out trash, weighing portions of every grade of plant material, monitoring trim quality from humans, operating mechanized trim machines, sterilization of tools and rooms. The Associate must always maintain a tidy work environment, putting away equipment and cleaning up, logging any waste generated. Our general philosophy is to avoid making a mess in the first place to reduce the strain of cleaning later.
All associates are directed by the Facility Director, Post-Harvest Supervisor, Cultivation Supervisor, and Compliance Manager to carry out the cultivation plan. All Associates will be expected to be flexible in performing tasks in all divisions of production and must be willing to jump in to assist other departments at a moment’s notice if the need arises. Harvest days are considered “all hands on deck” and every employee is expected to be involved and available for every step in the process.
Must be 21 years of age or older and have reliable transportation. MUST LIVE WITHIN 45 MINUTES OF OUR FACILITY located in the Florin area of Sacramento, CA. Transportation to and from the facility will never be considered an excuse for absence or tardiness. If you live further away from South Sacramento, you will not be considered.
Hourly wages range between $18-22/hr depending on qualifications. Position is full-time. Hours are typically 8AM-4:30PM M-F, but you will be expected to adapt to any changes required for optimal production which may include showing up earlier, staying later, or filling in on weekends. We observe multiple paid holidays including, New Year’s Day, MLK, Memorial, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas.
Those already employed in the industry who are looking to move into a cleaner, high-tech, cutting edge production facility are encouraged to apply and will be compensated appropriately. Those with prior experience must consider that we are a brand-new start-up: we shoot from the hip and pivot our approaches on a daily basis as we break in the equipment and christen the building. Your ability to be patient, adaptable and forward-thinking will be your greatest asset as we pave our way in the industry at large. Those interested in beginning a career in cannabis will have multiple long-term opportunities arise as we expand, with two more buildings already in the works. Please note that if you have "years of experience" this will probably not be the position for you.
To be considered, please include the phrase “This gon’ be my year” in the beginning of your response in your cover letter, and explain in at least a few sentences why you are suited to work at a cannabis cultivation facility. Provide a resume with up-to-date work history (regardless of industry) or you will not be considered.
List three dates and times that you are available for a tour of the facility and walking interview.
