Part Time GNA'S Assisted Living

  • Day Shift, 7 - 3 (EO Weekend and EO Friday)
  • Evening Shift 3-11, (opposite FT)
  • Evening Shift - 3-11 (EO Weekend, Tues- Fri, Mon-Thus.)
  • Partial Shift 2- 6am (EO Weekend or Every Weekend)

Job Requirements:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), one (1) to three (3) years of clinical nursing experience and Geriatric Nursing Assistant certificate required; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Incumbent should be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form, possess high-quality verbal and written communication ability, strong customer service and interpersonal skills, and be knowledgeable in restorative and medical nursing principles and practices.

Job Summary:

This position is primarily responsible for providing general medical and restorative treatment to residents on a daily basis. Additional duties include motivating residents to meet set goals and documenting all treatment given to resident. Must be competent in understanding, and utilizing the QAPI process.


Primary Job Duties:

Key Responsibilities


Hygiene and Nutritional Care:

Delivers hygiene and nutritional care as required to residents within the Assisted Living and Nursing Center units.

  • Gives each resident the proper daily personal attention and care to include skin, nail, hair, and oral hygiene, in addition to any specific care ordered by the attending physician. Communicates any provisions to care to the charge nurse.
  • Performs tub baths, showers, or bed baths to assigned residents at the appropriate scheduled time of day.
  • Ensures that proper oral hygiene is given to include brushing and flossing of teeth and gums every day.
  • Assists dressing residents in appropriate clothing to be clean, warm, and safe.
  • Makes sure that residents remain clean, dry, and tidy. Changes resident's clothes or undergarments if soiled or dirty.
  • Reports any abnormal or problematic skin or hygiene situations to the charge nurse. Serves trays to residents; assists and/or feeds residents where necessary
  • Observes and reports to the charge nurse any resident experiencing difficulty in eating or toleration of their prescribed diet.
  • Changes linen at scheduled intervals as defined by the community and when needed to ensure a comfortable and clean environment.
  • Documents food and liquid consumption. Notifies Charge Nurse and Dietician of any nutritional concerns or issues.
  • Dresses each assigned resident in clean and odor-free clothing and encourages each resident to wear day clothing when out of the bed.
  • Provides each resident with a tub or shower bath as often as needed, but no less than twice a week. Provides sponge baths daily to residents who are prohibited by medical conditions to receive a tub or shower bath.
  • Adheres to infection control practices as directed by the Charge Nurse in adherence to Ingleside policies, CDC and jurisdictional guidelines.

Restorative Functions:

Engages resident in restorative care exercises to maintain or meet the highest level of functionality.

  • Encourages residents to remain as independent as possible, keeping in mind the need for safety measures.
  • Communicates in such a manner with the resident so as to ensure a constantly oriented, therapeutic environment.
  • Carries out bowel and bladder training as directed by the unit nurse.
  • Assists in ambulating residents as part of their restorative program.
  • Helps residents to relearn or adapt to new methods to perform basic activities of daily living to include dressing, bathing, grooming, and eating.
  • Turns and repositions residents to prevent skin breakdown and contractures, and make the resident comfortable.
  • Performs exercise functions for improving range of mobility focusing on strength and conditioning.
  • Documents delivered into the electronic medical record.
  • Escorts residents to any recreational activity or scheduled medical appointment as requested by the Charge Nurse.

Medical Duties:

Performs general medical care functions and assesses residents' vital signs on a daily basis.

  • Obtains shift report from previous shift nurse and begins rounds within 20 minutes of beginning of shift. Checks on each assigned resident and assesses needs of care.
  • Responds to residents' calls for assistance within 15 minutes of notification. Documents assessment of need in response to call.
  • Takes temperature, pulse, and respiration as directed by the unit nurse and records information on the vital signs sheet.
  • Measures intake and output on residents as directed; records and reports the findings appropriately, noting any irregularities.
  • Records resident bowel functions, noting irregularities and reports to Unit Nurse.
  • Collects urine specimens as directed by the Charge Nurse.
  • Applies splints as directed by the Occupational Therapist.

Maintains professional presence when representing Ingleside exhibits degree of professionalism consistent with standards in performance, behavior, and appearance.

  • Maintains resident confidentiality and privacy at all times according to policies and procedures; uses discretion when discussing confidential matters.
  • Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior with residents, families, co-workers, subordinates, supervisors, and other department staff.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with management and coworkers; willingly follows directions and requests as appropriate.
  • Exhibits professional standards through appearance and demeanor consistent personnel standards.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of work assignments and performs in a manner to meet quality and timeliness objectives.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of policies and procedures; seeks clarification or interpretation from appropriate supervisor when needed.
  • Uses tactful, diplomatic communication techniques in all relations with others.

Professional Development:

Demonstrates professional development/skills competency in all activities.

  • Participates in at least 12 hours of training per year on the following topics:
    • Following facility policies and procedures
    • Change of Resident Condition
    • Infection Prevention and Control
    • Safety Procedures
    • Activities of Daily Living
    • Resident Rights
    • Resident Behaviors
    • Resident Abuse (required)
    • Dementia Management (required)
    • Care for cognitively impaired (required)
    • Participates in other in-service, projects, or committees as assigned.
  • Participates in in-service, projects, or committees as assigned.
  • Maintains all certifications necessary for employment.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, open mindedness, and versatility in adjusting to changing environments and requirements as necessary.
  • Commits to continually improving his/her skills through participations in education opportunities whether offered on the job, within, or outside of the community, to increase knowledge of work-related issues.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of federal, state and other regulations applicable to job.
