About being our Biologist

As a Biologist, supporting our Resource Management team in our Pasadena, CA office at Psomas, this position is for a mid-level Staff Biologist with additional experience in regulatory services to work in both the field and the office, to perform project biological studies, regulatory permitting and other varied industry duties.


Responsibility Highlights for our Biologist

  • Performing field surveys, desktop biological resource assessments, regulatory permitting, coordination, mapping, report writing, and other duties as required
  • Using GIS-related software for data collection of sensitive biological resources
  • Provide regular status reports on results of field data collection
  • Preparation of reports for review by various agency personnel
  • Analysis of visual and remote sensing data
  • Conduct technical scientific literature review
  • Conduct field work in remote locations under all weather conditions
  • Manage projects, coordinate activities, conduct/oversee biological studies, report writing, resource agency consultation and assist with other varied industry duties
  • Perform preliminary jurisdictional assessments and delineations to identify the presence of resources regulated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) and California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW)
  • Preparation of ACOE Section 404, CDFW Section 1602, and Regional Water Quality Control Board Section 401 permit applications
  • Prepare and conduct pre-application meetings to review the jurisdictional delineation reports prepared for project


Minimum Qualifications for our Biologist

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Botany, Field Ecology, Wildlife, or related organismic biology field or related environmental technical discipline
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience as a Biologist/Regulatory Specialist with prior consulting firm or agency experience
  • Experience working as a field biologist conducting surveys and assessing habitat characteristics
  • Must have knowledge of GPS/GIS, Southern California Plant Communities and Wildlife Species, federal and state Endangered Species Acts, Section 1602 of the state Fish and Game Code and basic NEPA and CEQA knowledge
  • Working knowledge of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, Section 401 of the Clean Water Act and Section 1600 of the California Fish and Game Code is essential
  • Driving experience in remote, rugged and undeveloped terrain; ability to conduct field work for extended periods of time and physically fit to navigate rugged conditions on foot while carry supplies
