English Language Learning Teacher (Elementary K-5) Job at Shelbyville Central Schools
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other duties may be assigned
- Oversees supplemental Title III instruction for English Language (EL) students and provides direct supervision for instructional assistants working with
students
- Oversees the implementation of language learning and support software
- Assists in administering required language proficiency and academic achievement tests for determining placement, ongoing monitoring of student progress
and determining when a student is to be exited from the program
- Assists in developing language acquisition support plans and Individual Learning Plans (ILP) for all EL students and works with teachers to implement plans
- Works with classroom teachers to support differentiated instruction
- Utilizes sensitivity toward the developmental stages and well-being of students
- Utilizes curriculum maps/scope & sequence, Indiana State Standards, and student data to develop lesson plans
- Assists in developing appropriate curriculum to help EL students acquire the English language
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and teaching strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students, including whole group (co-teaching)/
small-group or individual learning
- Maintains a profile summary (record of achievement and progress) for each EL student to assist in driving instruction based on the levels and needs of the EL
students
- Establishes and maintains communication with parents of students in the program
- Engages parents and families in their student’s learning and acts as an ambassador for the school in the community
- Contributes productively to the school as a whole
- Participates in in-service and staff development activities and staff meetings as required or assigned
- Attends Individual Education Plans (IEP), Section 504, (Individual Learning Plan) ILP, or other related meetings necessary for student assessment and/or
compliance with federal and/or state law
- Maintains ongoing program of professional growth that satisfies personal expectations as a professional
- Shares best practices for EL students with fellow teachers and manages and analyzes student data
- Maintains satisfactory attendance
- Complies with Corporation Bylaws, Policies, and Employee Handbook and Models Corporation Mission Statement and Fundamental Objectives
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises students, volunteers, and instructional assistants

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Valid Teacher’s License and Highly Qualified
One of these credentials:
1. Teaching English Language Arts with English as a Second Language –add on license
2. Bachelor of Arts with TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other
Languages) major
3. Indiana Public School K-12 ENL Teaching License
4. Valid Indiana Teaching License and pursuing an ELL endorsement
