POSITION SUMMARY:
The Engineering/Maintenance Manager manages the Engineering and Maintenance Department’s personnel to deliver yearly capital improvement plan for the company. This position develops and strengthens personnel to fit company values. The position also ensures projects and maintenance tasks are completed in a timely manner and under budget to meet operational goals and business case. Develops and maintains five-year capital plan of maintenance and strategic projects to address business needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safely manages all engineering projects, from design through construction, commissioning, and start-up
  • Ensures all engineering projects satisfy business case by delivering the project under budget and on schedule
  • Ensures all engineering projects meet the Company goals of Safety and Sustainability
  • Plans and formulates engineering program and leads project staff to achieve project requirements
  • Reviews systems’ designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, contract requirements, operational requirements, and other related specifications
  • Ensures early management tools are utilized: target criteria, operational readiness, commissioning, and training of operations and maintenance to ensure vertical start-up of all projects
  • Resolves engineering design and testing problems; coordinate activities concerned with technical developments and scheduling
  • Communicates projects’ status and budget through regular reporting to management team
  • Prepares interim progress reports and a summary of each project at completion
  • Manages Maintenance team including implementation of proper preventative maintenance (PM) programs and overseeing AM and PM activities to avoid unplanned breakdowns
  • Ensures Maintenance personnel are properly trained to repair/replace and PM all appropriate equipment in the facility
  • Working with the Maintenance and Operations teams, assists in the coordination of all contractor activity at the facility
  • Oversees operations of Utilities systems, including ensuring proper PSM procedures are in place for all designated systems (i.e. ammonia refrigeration, boilers)
  • Ensures Utility systems are designed, installed, and maintained to achieve operational success

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:

  • Preferred: BS degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years managing Engineering/Maintenance Departments
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in project management
  • Ability to manage projects from $5k to $5M

  • Understanding of industrial utility systems (e.g. compressed air, steam, refrigeration, electrical distribution) essential
  • Understanding of preventative maintenance programs essential; experience in a dairy environment helpful
  • Knowledge of sanitary design essential; knowledge of USDA and 3A standards helpful
  • Knowledge of/experience with dairy processing equipment such as separators, pasteurizers, membrane systems, evaporators, and dryers helpful

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional ascending and/or descending of ladders and stairs using feet and legs and/or hands and arms on a regular basis. Body agility is emphasized
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances on a regular basis
  • Sitting for extended periods of time at a computer
  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Includes activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly
