REPORTS TO Engineering Manager

Summary / Purpose:
Engineering CAD Tech performs a variety of functions: CAD software maintenance and file management, engineering project support & tooling sourcing activities, tooling design/drafting projects, including updating production tooling models/drawings, preparing assembly/manufacturing drawings, utilizing Creo/SolidWorks/AutoCAD. Oversees gage design.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
  • Work together with Engineering & NIL groups to complete projects & assist Engineers on various levels
  • CAD software system administrator (WAL ~16 seats Creo / SolidWorks / AutoCAD)
  • Engineering Drive / Server Management / Document Control Management for CAD files
  • Update & Maintain: Modern Drafting Practices & Standards Manual (G.E. reference)
  • Work with purchasing to source tooling prints for all Auto / Non-Auto crib stock orders (weekly)
  • Liaise with tooling vendors for any quoting, delivery, or quality issues
  • Reverse engineer current die or machine designs (no prints on file) to create up-to-date models & prints
  • Design, quote, order , & build specialized gages. Strategic NIL gage design & methodogy development
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Read and interpret Engineering Drawings with general knowledge of GD&T

Demonstated experience with SolidWorks & Pro-E for tool and gage design. Creation of 3D solid models, assemblies, & drawings

  • Detailed understanding of measuring equipment use & knowledge of application to print requirements
  • Experience with standard Quality Control systems & tools. Strong math skills required
  • Skilled use of MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook) with excellent Verbal & Written communication skills
  • Self-Starter with willingness to learn new applications and analysis / measurement methods
  • Stays on Task & Self-Manages time constraints to meet project deadlines
  • Heightened organizational skills. Requires minimal supervision. Performs well independently & within a Team
  • Stays on task & manages multiple projects simultaneously. Attendance to limited meetings as required
Education and Experience:
  • A.S. Degree in Drafting Technology / CAD or Equivalent
  • Drafting / Design within ProE / Creo. The addition of SolidWorks & AutoCAD preferred
  • Machine & Gage design experience, with understanding of Tool & Die
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
  • Weekly Work Schedule (40hr min / 45hr max) - Travel Required (Limited / Minimal)
  • Daily Activities: 75/25 desk – production floor interaction. Lifting / Carry Max #40. Standard PPE Req.
