Baker University’s Department of Business and Economics (hereafter Department) seeks applications for The William Everett and Mary Ellen Mealman Endowed Chair in Business Leadership and Innovation. Mr. Mealman is a Baker graduate and chairman of the board of PBI/Gordon Corp. Founded by a Methodist bishop in 1858, Baker is the oldest university in Kansas. The Department is part of the University’s College of Arts and Sciences located in Baldwin City, Kansas (residential four-year campus). The Department offers majors in Accounting, Business, Economics, International Business, and Sports Administration. The Department is also an important contributor to the data analytics and pre-law interdisciplinary minor programs.
This position’s rank will reflect the candidate’s professional and academic experience. Eligible candidates will be considered based on their (1) demonstrated appreciation for business leadership and innovation; (2) ongoing research and/or consulting concerning the business community; and (3) teaching experience. A doctoral degree in a business-related discipline is preferred.
The position’s responsibilities include: (1) Actively engage with the Greater Kansas City business community in meaningful ways that promote the interests of students, Department, and University; (2) Teach courses that demonstrate the importance of business leadership and innovation; (3) Coordinate with the University’s Advancement Office in producing an annual event that celebrates business leadership and innovation with awards given to leaders in the business community and students; and (4) Develop relationships with potential donors that will advance the Department’s (and indeed the University’s) mission and academic reputation.
