ENDEAVOR GRAIN AND FEED ASSISTANT

FLSA Status: Full Time/ Non-Exempt

Reports to: Feed Department Manager

Summary: To perform the inspection, receiving, drying, processing, distribution, and storage of all grain commodities at all company grain receiving and handling locations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Responsible for operating all areas of grain & feed receiving, storage and handling in a safe manner
• Responsible for the proper drying of all grain received
• Responsible for maintaining the condition of all stored grain inventories
• Responsible for the proper blending, cleaning, and conditioning of grain
• Responsible for verifying incoming grain quality, both by checking scale tickets and by visual inspection
• Responsible for performing scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance and repair for all grain handling and storage equipment as required. Responsible for performing and assisting with maintenance and repair projects in other areas as scheduled. Responsible for housekeeping and quality assurance in all grain receiving and feed manufacturing handling areas
• Responsible for providing back up for the ingredient receiving areas as scheduled
• Bins are checked weekly during storage season and reports on grain conditions are recorded
• Grain is dried to the proper moisture without over-drying, and then cooled properly to prevent spoilage
• Grain is maintained in good condition without deterioration at all locations. Aeration is managed to maintain grain quality
• Housekeeping is scheduled and accomplished to prevent grain deterioration and prevent rodent problems. Grain spills are cleaned up promptly
• Assistance is provided in other areas such as repairs, ingredient receiving, warehousing and distribution, as well as Feed Trucking and Agronomy as needed
• Priority is given to supplying the feed mill with high quality grain – the best available. Moisture, test weight, odor and appearance are monitored daily. Problem grain is reported immediately so that measures can be taken to assure feed quality and prevent economic loss to the company
• Grain receiving, grading, contracting, and pricing policies are adhered to and supported in dealing with our customers
• Customers are treated with courtesy and respect. Rapid, courteous service for loading and unloading is a priority. We need to excel in customer service
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Education and/or Experience

High School Diploma or GED

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills and Reasoning

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid driver’s license. Ability to operate loaders, tractors, track mobile, and skid steer.

Physical Demands

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
