Position Description

Advertised Job Summary
Manage the Health/Safety and Emergency Preparedness program for USC Beaufort to meet and conform to federal, state, local, and university laws and policies; coordinate emergency management and health/safety activities with USC Beaufort departments and personnel, outside agencies and the general public; serve as the USC Beaufort coordinator for regional and statewide disaster preparedness programs. Serves as advisor to the Emergency Management Team Leader during emergency and is the liaison with the State Office of Emergency Preparedness and the Beaufort and Jasper County emergency service units. Manage daily activities associated with (fire alarm technician),(fire sprinkler technician) (Fire suppression ), and fire safety extinguisher coordinator. Coordinate fire safety duties with Housing and other University personnel. Under minimum supervision, the Fire Marshal is responsible for the inspection, testing and maintenance of fire detection and fire protection equipment for the University of South Carolina Beaufort. Incumbent is responsible building code inspections, fire drills, and fire alarm tests. Responds to emergency and/or perceived emergency incidents.

Minimum Qualifications
Must have a South Carolina Fire Marshal and Fire Inspector license or be able to attain it within one year of hire. Must have a valid drivers license. Must maintain a SLED/NCIC security background certification.

Preferred Qualifications
NIMS Certifications (100,700,300, 800 minimum) is desired and must be completed within 6 months of hire. Fire marshal certification is desired, but must be obtained within one year of hire.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to communicate in a clear and concise manner. Must possess a high level of professionalism and ability to work independently or in a team environment. Must demonstrate flexibility, creativity, and attention to detail. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency, unusual, or dangerous situations. Must have NIMS (National Incident Management System) certification. Must have or be able to obtain fire marshal certification.

Position Attributes
