AFFOA is dedicated to accelerating the pace of innovation in advanced textiles through R&D, transitioning and integrating fiber and fabric technologies into products with dual-use applications. The Institute is uniquely positioned to establish and build supply chains to rapidly prototype for DoD and commercial needs and focuses on preparing and building the workforce of the future that can support these new manufacturing needs. AFFOA partners with its member companies including startups, universities, manufacturers, commercial industry, and defense partners to bring advanced fiber technologies to market.

Position Overview
AFFOA is seeking a project manager with a passion for Education & Workforce Development (EWD) and inspiring the future workforce. The ideal candidate will be flexible, detail-oriented, and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. This position requires the ability to work with minimal direction, the capacity to move quickly and be flexible while delivering high-quality results.

The successful candidate will have an exciting opportunity to grow in a complex environment that combines smart textiles, product development, government contracting, manufacturing, advanced technology, and education & workforce development. As a part of an integrated team, the role will report to the VP New Business Development & Partnerships and work closely with the Director of Education & Workforce Development, external project partners, finance, program management, product, and technical staff.

Job Duties

  • Support Director of Education & Workforce Development in day-to-day operations of programs and projects, including planning, coordinating, executing, and monitoring to ensure successful completion of AFFOA projects on-time and on-budget.
  • Effectively use project management tools to execute cradle-to-grave project management activities including, but not limited to scheduling, resource allocation, staffing, budgets, data analysis, risk management, technical deliverables, and reporting.
  • Serve as a liaison between participants & partners, creating performance metrics, collecting data, assessing progress to goals/milestones, and reporting on the program to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in proposal and grant writing for additional funded programs.
  • Report on participation metrics, program states and deliverables, and success stories from institute EWD programs to Department of Defense, State and Federal stakeholders.
  • Lead small to medium EWD projects and launch new projects/initiatives.
  • Continuously evaluate programs and ensure that they are efficient, high quality, and scalable.
  • Additional duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • BA/ BS in Education, Social Science, Business Management, or related degree.
  • 5 or more years Industry, Non-Profit, or University experience working on project management, proposal development, curriculum development, program evaluation, etc.
  • Excellent ability and methodology to plan and control scope, troubleshoot, and identify the root cause of issues, identify solutions, and understand basic research methods.
  • Ability to support several projects at one time, accept reprioritization as necessary and deliver high-quality work on schedule.
  • Willingness to learn new processes and tasks in a growing and changing environment.
  • Understanding of basic research methods, metric development, and ROI analysis
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Proven ability to engage positively with external partners, technical staff, government sponsors and senior leadership.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, ideally some experience with CRM and data analysis software.
  • PMP certification preferred
  • Experience working in an Agile environment preferred
  • Candidates must be a US Citizen or Green card holder

Location
This position is located at AFFOA HQ in Cambridge Massachusetts, with occasional travel as needed.
