About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, this position is a hands-on, leadership-team position defining the next generation of precision health technology. The Director of Engineering oversees our internal development team, external consultants and, in concert with the Chief Technology Officer, defines the technical architecture of our next generation platform. You will be responsible for the full stack and microservice architecture of our platform.

Essential Functions

We are on the bleeding edge of an emerging space. You will need creativity and vision to design and execute complex technology solutions, and the ability to inspire others to get excited by and vested in executing that vision. We are building first-of-its-kind digital infrastructure that powers our bleeding edge factory. We move fast.

Linux full stack: You know your way around a Linux environment from the command line.

• Deep knowledge of Linux OS variants, kernel level a plus, but not required
• Common web/proxy solutions
• Common API serving solutions
• Common open source database solutions
• Demonstrated high-level DBA knowledge
• Experience implementing HTTP solutions with a firm understanding of the protocol
• Firm understanding of network infrastructure and communication protocols

Database administration: You know how to get complex data in and out of a variety of database flavors, and have demonstrated that ability in a secure production environment.

• SQL and SQL-less models
• Data security at rest
• Knowledge of proper PHI handling, experience with privacy regulations a plus
• Scalable and secure open source technologies are a must

Development Environment knowledge: You know how to write secure, scalable code, and enable others to do so. You have managed an agile team, and delivered software through a CI/CD pipeline.

• Fluent with Git and the security aspects of repositories and the code stored in them
• Experience managing fast paced CI/CD pipelines, and the developers using it
• Firm knowledge of
• Deep expertise in Node (javascript - typescript and express a bonus)
• Linux scripting (Bash)
• C/C++/Go/Rust/Java, Apex a plus
• Salesforce advanced admin or developer certifications a plus

Deep API experience: You know what “API first” means, and have delivered scalable and secure API solutions.

• REST models, GRPC models a plus
• Advanced authentication models and proactive threat mitigation
• Demonstrated experience with advanced cryptography and authentication models in a production micro-services environment
• Firm understanding of public key infrastructure
• Firm understanding of common authmodels such as PSK and Oauth

• Firm understanding of the implementation of the principle of least privilege
• Experience architecting technology solutions with a platform agnostic perspective that meet business requirements
• Firm grounding in cost effective, high performance, highly available AWS architecture
• Coordinate internal development team with outside specialists to produce world class consumer experiences

Network management: You know how to coordinate physical network demands with security and business requirements.

• Supervise Meraki network administrator and on-site support team
• Oversee change management of network security configuration
• Facilitate access to onsite assets for third party vendors

People: You are as fluent with people as you are with machines. You:

• Know how to motivate and manage a team with vision, compassion and excitement
• Know how to find and recruit great people with applicable skills
• Have experience managing productive conflict in development teams
• Are able to communicate deep technology concepts to non-technical audiences in a remote environment

Qualifications

• 5+ years demonstrated experience in a senior development position
• Bachelor’s degree or significant demonstrable experience in information technology, computer engineering or related subject
• Intrinsic curiosity about new technologies and the creativity and experience to effectively apply them to business cases
• Strong desire to continuously learn and improve from colleagues all around you including those you supervise
• Demonstrable experience in CRM and ERP platforms, Salesforce experience a plus
• Strong knowledge of and experience with Agile methodologies
• Humility and a sense of humor
• Excellent communication skills especially in a remote environment
