Position Summary

Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Philanthropy (DOP) is a senior leadership position in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Detroit (SVdPD). This position is responsible for managing all Development, Marketing and Database Management activities. The DOP is responsible for securing philanthropic support for SVdPD through the annual campaign, major gift solicitation, unrestricted and restricted funds and capital fundraising activities and opportunities. In collaboration with the CEO, the DOP will ensure goals and objectives set forth in the budget and strategic plan are achieved. The DOP must have the ability to foster strong donor relationships and be able to work closely with the Foundation Board, Board of Trustees, community leaders and volunteers.

Primary Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to)

  • Design and implement a comprehensive fund development plan and budget to ensure that SVdPD’s advancement and philanthropic goals and objectives are achieved.
  • In collaboration with the CEO, identify, cultivate, and steward gifts at all levels.
  • Develop prospect strategies and lead the direct cultivation and solicitation of corporate and individual donors for major gifts.
  • Build portfolios of donors for CEO and DOP and strategically manage relationships through visits to close major gifts for the Society, the $1 million Capital Campaign, 100th Anniversary Camp Campaign, and other ongoing initiatives.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase planned giving with a focus on donor-advised funds.
  • Create donor recognition strategies and timelines including giving societies.
  • Identify potential grantors and significantly expand grant writing capacity to expand foundation grants, including prospect research, content formulation and reporting.
  • Oversee contracts with communications and marketing vendors to implement strategies that significantly grow our individual donor base through year-round cultivation, annual appeals and special events. Manage $450,000 marketing and communications budget.
  • Plan and implement signature special and donor events including overall event plan and corporate solicitation/sponsorships to achieve significant growth objectives.
  • Manage annual giving and direct mail campaigns.
  • Work with the Board of Trustees to maximize their own giving potential as well as develop a prospect list and cultivation pipeline of board contacts.
  • Recruit and steward C-Suite community leaders for and provide leadership to the SVdPD Foundation fundraising board.
  • Supervise Database Manager to customize our donor database and oversee donor management, gift receipts and acknowledgement protocols.
  • Promote the elements of the Society: spirituality, friendship and service.
  • Support Catholic Social Teaching.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in fundraising with increasing development and communications responsibility with a proven and verifiable revenue generation track record of $5 million annually in securing major gifts from individuals, corporate sponsorships, and foundation grants.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and oversee annual fundraising and marketing plans.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Personal interest and passion for the mission of SVdP.
  • Experience in the non-profit sector.
  • Skilled in creating powerful and compelling written and oral communications for fundraising.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge and MailChimp
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
  • Unquestionable personal integrity and sound judgement.
  • CFRE Certification.
  • Ability to provide insight and guidance to the future fundraising direction of SVdPD.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 45 pounds

Work Environment

  • General office.
  • Some weeknight and weekend hours may be required.
  • Occasional driving to meet donors is required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
