City Experiences is seeking a Data Engineer for our Business operations

Salary Range: $65,000 - $100,000

About the Opportunity:

We are looking for a passionate data engineer (DE) to own creation of various data lakes and to create pipelines to/from existing data sets. The role will support the City Experience Marketing team who need a broad set of data to develop insights to anticipate consumer purchasing behavior, improve reach, and drive conversion. Data is at the center of every insight we will develop as we create business analytics solutions that serve the needs of our internal customers. The DE will support City Experiences’ enterprise data management and data optimization activities. Working primarily across all data capturing elements, the DE will be responsible for integrity, stability, and completeness of all piped datasets in supporting business continuity in replication. You will have an impact on delivering data through migrating proprietary first party data out of our Anchor booking engine for City Experiences brands.

Teaming-up with our in-house software development team Encore®, the DE will be responsible for developing new data pipelines from our DWH powered by AWS. Members of this team will be challenged to innovate using big data technologies. The ideal candidate combines world-class analytical/modeling skills and outstanding business acumen to lead application of customer models, experimental design, and best-in-class measurement tools across our marketing teams with a core focus on data delivery. The Data Engineer, Data Management will be responsible for data definition, ETL, data management tools and processes, data modeling, and developing and maintaining a modern data warehouse to support company wide data management, data analytics and data science functions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with our engineering team to build, augment, and maintain a centralized customer database. Collect, analyze, define, and document data from a variety of sources that will enable development of rich customer insights and analysis.
  • Extract transforms and load data from a wide variety of sources into our Data Warehouse.
  • Design new methodologies, pulling necessary data, building data models with accuracy from various data sources.
  • Design, develop, launch, automate and maintain reliable data pipelines in production.
  • Optimize SQL query performance, reports and ETL processes.
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve production and data issues.
  • Design and implement reporting solutions based on users’ needs. Develop dashboards, reports, and tools to help monitor performance and drive growth ensuring data hygiene and data integration across sources.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to establish clear analytical objectives, approaches, and timelines.
  • Identify data infrastructure issues and drive to resolution.
  • Summarize, visualize, communicate, and document analytic concepts, processes, and results for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide thought leadership and innovation in process, technique, and implementation.
  • Additional job duties assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Information Systems, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2-4 years of experience in data engineering, data warehousing and supporting big data analytics projects, including using AWS technologies (Redshift, S3, EMR, RDS, EC2, DynamoDB, Lambda, Kinesis, etc.), BigQuery, and other big data technologies.
  • 1-2 years of experience in ETL development in tools like AWS Glue, Lambda Functions, AWS Kinesis, AWS Data Pipelines and similar in a business environment with a variety of large and complex data sets
  • 1-2 years of experience in a quantitative role in analytics
  • Expertise in SQL and working with structured and unstructured datasets, as well as data visualization technologies such as Looker or Tableau.
  • Working knowledge of a scripting language (e.g., Python, R) and experience extracting data from REST APIs and script scheduling.
  • Deep proficiency with schema design and dimensional data modeling.
  • Experience with big data and cloud platforms to deploy large-scale data science solutions
  • Experience integrating web analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) into a data warehouse
  • Knowledge in CRM or lifecycle marketing functions with strong analytical grasp of ecommerce and lifecycle channel measurement KPIs
  • Comfortable leveraging data from multiple data sources to produce actionable business insights.
  • Ability to navigate complex business organizations and manage multiple cross-functional stakeholders
  • Team oriented, collaborative, and cooperative with a strong work ethic
