- A bachelor’s degree in social work, education, Indigenous studies, or related fields. Equivalent experience, education, and training may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.
- Experience working with Native American community; knowledge of Native American traditions, values, culture, and belief systems.
- Four years of experience working with Alaska Native and American Indian youth and families in an educational setting.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of community resources and services to Native American families in Anchorage.
- Experience with data and record keeping for federal, state, or other grants.
- Implements and maintains services in accordance with FIRE objectives and the ASD Indigenous Education strategic plan.
- Develops and facilitates program content aimed at family engagement, especially fatherhood and parenthood values as identified by the Alaska Strong grant.
- Collaborates within the ASD Indigenous Education teams, including the Community Counselor and Indigenous Culture Identity teams, to report on FIRE program outcomes and opportunities.
- Responds to parent, student, teacher, and staff requests for assistance with needs and services.
- Consults and collaborates with tribal agencies, community organizations, and Anchorage School District interdisciplinary teams for additional family supports.
- Assists families and students in transition from rural to urban Alaska.
- Ensures safety for all children/family members attending weekly workshops, including coordinating school-age childcare for families while attending the program.
- Maintains constant effective written and oral communication with students, parents/guardians, school staff and administration, and members of the community to inform and address the needs of individual students to improve services and outcomes.
- Evaluates student records and assists with developing and implementing services that address social, academic, and cultural needs.
- Attends school events such as parent/teacher conferences and open house nights to promote the Title VI Indian Education program and Strong Grant Program and provides services at school events.
- Attends assigned training and professional development as determined by the FIRE Program supervision, Title VI Indian Education supervisor, and the Anchorage School District.
- Promotes, publicizes, and connects families to Indigenous Education opportunities such as fatherhood workshops, family engagement, college/career readiness, culture nights, community events, and other enrichment opportunities
- Maintains organization and completes projects and tasks in a timely manner.

Job Summary
The Alaska Strong Grant Coordinator reports to the supervisor of Title VI Indian Education to implement the Fatherhood: Family-focused, Interconnected, Resilient, and Essential (FIRE) grant. This position coordinates the Anchorage School District’s delivery of the FIRE grant through partnerships including the Alaska Association of School Boards and Annette Island School District.
Through father and family engagement activities, the Alaska Strong Grant Coordinator will support training for school staff, couples, and fathers to promote the FIRE program objectives:

The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required.
