Rogers & Willard, Inc. (RWI) is a commercial construction firm located in Mobile, Alabama. Founded 30 years ago, RWI has completed numerous projects in approximately 20 states. The project range from $1 million to $10 million and cover a wide variety of new construction and renovation projects. Approximately half of the projects are in Alabama and half are out of state. This position often requires relocation to the jobsite state for the duration of the project. Out of town projects are generally 3-6 months in duration. RWI is seeking full time superintendents that are looking for a job where that can be a part of a dynamic team. Construction Superintendent

The Project Superintendent (Super)works as a team with a Project Manager (PM) to ensure completion of projects in a safe, timely and quality manner. The Super provides on-site coordination for all phases of commercial construction projects, including coordinating subcontractors, material and equipment, ensuring that specifications are being strictly followed, and work is proceeding on schedule and within budget. The Super is responsible for scheduling, inspections, quality control, and job site safety. Conflicts or revisions to the plan shall be communicated with the project team (i.e. superiors, architect, engineer, consultant, owner) for mutual resolution, prior to execution of work that deviates from the approved plans. The Project Superintendent shall establish and enforce job site quality control programs to ensure quality completion of construction. The Project Superintendent does not engage in monetary agreements (subcontracts, change orders, work authorizations), this is handled by the PM.

Responsibilities of Superintendent:

  • Schedule subcontractors, consultants, and vendors in critical path to ensure timely completion.
  • Perform quality control duties and responsibilities regarding the work being performed.
  • Communicate with project team regarding ASI’s, RFI’s, and Material Submittals.
  • Ensure that subcontractor is fully executing and complying with his contracted scope of work.
  • Coordinate required inspections with local jurisdictions.
  • Identify subcontractor non-compliance with safety, health, and environmental quality standards.
  • Identify conflicts in construction progress and communicate them to project team for resolution.
  • Maintain daily log (written) of activities on the jobsite.
  • Ensure subcontractors correct all deficiencies identified by project team.
  • Monitor all on site activity progress and assist in future planning and scheduling.
  • Preside over weekly subcontractor meetings designed to coordinate the work.
  • Coordinate with Project Manager the sending of non-compliance letters to subcontractors in regard to safety, quality of work or scheduling.
  • Ensure that the job site is always kept in a clean and organized manner.
  • Perform job progress and completion punch list identification and completion.
  • Superintendent shall supervise all subcontractors, consultants, and vendors on a daily basis.
  • Ensure adequate manpower is available for each task and compliant work performed
  • Gather project material submittals and maintain records of approvals at the jobsite.
  • Identify areas of work that are outside of subcontracted scope.
  • Preside at pre-construction meeting with each subcontractor.
  • Opening the jobsite at beginning of the day and securing the jobsite at the end of the day.

Desired Characteristics of Construction Superintendents:

  • Able to provide direction and resolve problems with PM, subcontractors and vendors.
  • Able to identify deficient work and provide resolution.
  • Able to communicate and document using company technologies such as computers, cellular phones, construction software.
  • Proficient at blueprint reading and specification review and interpretation.
  • Physically able to walk site frequently during day including ability to lift up to 100 lbs. and navigate a project under construction.
  • Endurance and ability to visit entire job site, including stairs or other elevated structures.
  • Monitoring jobsite general health and safety in conjunction with the Safety Consultant and other safety related entities.
  • Manages difficult or emotional client, vendor or subcontractor situations.
  • Responds promptly to owner or architect needs and meets commitments.
  • Focuses on solving conflict by not blaming.
  • Maintains confidentiality and listens to others without interrupting.
  • Keeps emotions under control and remains open to others' ideas and tries new things.
  • Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
  • Listens and gets clarification and responds well to questions.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
