Examples of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Enter data from a variety of documents to various data entry machines.
  • Manually sort and batch documents according to various data entry procedures.
  • Verify data entered by other operators.
  • Perform general clerical work related to work assignments.
  • Learn/Operate peripheral computer equipment.
  • Assist with maintenance of the tape library.
  • Assist/Perform warrant signing, forms separation and other large paper handling jobs.
  • Participate and Train to/Monitor terminal activity and printing and tape mounts during peak workload times.
  • Answer telephones and either take messages or forwards call to staff.
  • Ensure confidentiality of the data entered material.
  • Log incoming work and separates it into appropriate work groups.
  • Collect, reviews and logs completed work.
  • Assist/Check print runs for completeness/quality.
  • Assist with reruns of misprinted or missing reports.
  • Perform help desk activities.
  • Check incoming work for completeness.
  • Dispatch work to appropriate areas.

Minimum Qualifications

Computer Support Assistant I

Experience:
One (1) year of data entry operation experience.

OR

Education:
Successful completion of a data entry curriculum or training program.

Computer Support Assistant II

Experience:
One (1) year of experience performing duties comparable to a Computer Support Assistant I in Merced County.

Essential Functions

  • Frequent operation of personal computer and other modern office equipment.

  • Frequent sitting for extended periods.

  • Lifting – Frequently 5 pounds or less; occasionally 5 to 30 pounds.
  • Constant use of overall visual capabilities.
  • Frequent use of color perception, hand/eye coordination, reading and/or close up work.
  • 0ccasional use of depth perception and peripheral vision.
  • Normal dexterity with constant holding, frequent grasping, reaching, repetitive motion and writing.
  • Constant hearing normal speech, hearing/talking on the telephone and in person.
  • Occasional exposure indoor industrial conditions including heat/cold, dust, chemical residues, allergens, odors, and poor ventilation.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function.
Knowledge of:
  • Data entry machines and peripheral computer equipment.
  • Date entry and computer operations.
  • Office methods, practices and procedures.
  • Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Ability to:
  • Work accurately with names, numbers, codes and symbols.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Apply data entry procedures.
  • Read and write English at a level for successful job performance.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationship with others.
  • Operate data entry machines at a rate of 8,000 key strokes per hour with a high degree of accuracy.


HOLIDAYS & LEAVES

VACATION

10 days the first 5 years of continuous employment (limited to a maximum of 160 hours), 15 days in the second 5 years of continuous employment (limited to a maximum of 240 hours), and 20 days after 10 years of continuous employment (limited to a maximum of 320 hours).

SICK LEAVE

.0462 hours sick leave for each paid regularly scheduled work hour. 12 days (96 hours per year) with unlimited accumulation. Optional annual buy back of a portion of accumulated sick leave hours upon meeting certain criteria.

HOLIDAYS

Twelve paid holidays annually plus one optional holiday.

BEREAVEMENT LEAVE

Three (3) regularly scheduled work days or five (5) days if distance traveled over 500 miles one-way.

LIFE INSURANCE

$10,000 County-paid coverage (Accidental Death and Dismemberment included). Voluntary Term Life and Universal Life Insurance available - premium paid by employee.

RETIREMENT

DEFERRED COMPENSATION

The County offers a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan. Employees choose their investment funds and can make pretax contributions to the plan up to the maximum allowable.

MERCED COUNTY EMPLOYEE RETIREMENT ASSOCIATION
The retirement plan is a defined benefit plan administered pursuant to the County Employees Retirement Law of 1937 and other provisions of the California Government Code. MCERA members also pay into Social Security. The applicable benefit formula is dependent upon your hire date with an MCERA employer; your pension amount will be determined by your age, years of service and final compensation amount.
