SUMMARY*
The Community Outreach Specialist oversees the daily operations of the Crisis Nursery and Parents Helping Parents support groups and supports the daily operations of the Crisis Nursery line. Primary responsibilities include coordinating and facilitating parent groups, tracking PHP data weekly, coordinating and leading partner meetings, supporting current groups and working to expand PHP in new locations. This position also includes outreach time at Family Resource Center, acting as the Cultural Navigator for these services.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: *

  • Ensure optimum support for families accessing Crisis Nursery by promoting protective factors and reducing risk factors.
  • Provide support for Crisis Nursery callers when on-call and as assigned
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of Crisis Nursery and Parents Helping Parents by sending out reminder emails, creating schedules and flyers, facilitating support groups, promoting parent leadership, tracking data, organizing trainings, and managing charter application.
  • Co-facilitate quarterly PHP Partner meetings, send out agenda and notes, maintain up to date partner lists
  • Assist in planning and implementing new PHP support groups throughout Scott and Carver counties based on needs
  • Co-facilitate PHP groups where assigned which may include evening commitments. Order food, materials and other necessities for PHP groups, summer events and other activities.
  • Ensure background checks, charter materials, Memorandums and data are up to date
  • Assist in writing grants for Crisis Nursery, research funding opportunities and building and maintaining relationships in the community
  • Community outreach by representing the Crisis Nursery & Parents Helping Parents program at local events and offering clients and community member’s comprehensive information on Crisis Nursery and CAP resources
  • Attend and participate in meetings, trainings, workshops, conferences and community events pertinent to the position, the CAP Agency and/or requested by Program Manager.
  • Meet with clients in home, community or at office to complete paperwork and coordinate services
  • Provide case management services for identified families
  • Ensure compliance with mandated reporting regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines
Associates’ Degree in Social Work or related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in Social Work or human services/ family studies or related field. The ideal candidate would have a year or more of leadership experience in social service or education. Preference given to bi-lingual applicants.
Knowledge of:

  • Applicable policies, procedures and regulations covering specific areas of assignment.

  • Specialized CAP and state agency software applications and procedures.
  • Local community resources and regional community services programs.
  • Trauma-informed care and reflective practice
  • Principles of record keeping and records management.
  • Personal computers utilizing standard and specialized software.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License, proof of insurance and review of Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) report is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. Ability to drive a motor vehicle to attend meetings. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage.
