Communication Center Assistant (Part-Time / Evening) Job at Surry Community College

This position is responsible for facilitating communications for Surry Community College through answering telephones, assisting with Chat, directing students, employees, and visitors, routing faxes, communicating with campus police, managing the emergency communications system (PA system and Regroup), and other duties as assigned. Requirements include experience and proficiency in the use of integrated software, along with excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, handle confidential information appropriately, and coordinate and prioritize multiple office duties. Ongoing training in the college and division’s software packages is also required. The schedule for this position is Monday through Thursday, evening shift, and daytime on Saturday.

Must complete state mandated 40 hour Telecommunicator School.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
A. Answer telephones and route calls effectively.
B. Direct employees, students, and visitors.
C. Make reservations for college vehicles using 25Live.
D. Distribute and collect materials needed for vehicle use (mileage log, fuel cards).
E. Use the public address system and Regroup.
F. Provide administrative support for Campus Police.
G. Participate in ongoing customer service training and remain current on all SCC operations.
H. Maintain a clean and safe work area.
I. Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to effectively present information to management, students, faculty, staff, or the public at large.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  • Ability to apply and understand standard mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  • Understanding of and commitment to the unique nature and role of the College and to the philosophy of the community college system.
Required Qualifications
Associate’s degree. Experience/proficiency in the use of various software packages, effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to coordinate and prioritize duties.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree. Experience in an educational setting.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
