Under the direction of the Lead Business Advisor of the Women’s Business Center of Utah (WBCUtah) Northern Office, hosted by the Salt Lake Chamber, the Business Outreach Navigator will help accomplish the WBCUtah’s mission to help Utah women build confidence, create opportunities and experience success in business ownership.

*The Navigator, representing WBCUtah, will serve as an important part of Salt Lake County’s Center of Opportunity Partnership (CO-OP) program which is a long-term initiative to connect lower-income businesses and community resources. The Navigator will seek out and identify “Opportunity Businesses” within Salt Lake County communities experiencing economic opportunity gaps, assess their needs and goals and then connect them to the most appropriate CO-OP Business Services Partner for hand-holding support.

The Business Outreach Navigator will help accomplish Salt Lake County’s CO-OP goal to create an ecosystem of businesses, community-based organizations and business services organizations which leverage each other's strengths to ensure “Opportunity Businesses” can thrive in Salt Lake County.

*PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate and work directly with other Business Outreach Navigators on collaborative outreach and engagement efforts, including campaigns, events etc., to connect with communities experiencing economic opportunity gaps
  • Travel throughout the county, with flexibility in the schedule, including night and weekend hours on a case-to-case basis and/or for special events
  • Document, monitor, and evaluate outreach and referral activities and success rates, grant hours, and efficacy; prepare and submit reports using provided data management tools
  • Utilize, update, and maintain a referral network of local service providers, business resources, state and federal agency resources, and financial institutions for Opportunity Businesses within identified communities
  • Based on business owner needs and preferences, establish an action plan and refer each owner to appropriate partners providing CO-OP Business Services
  • Identify, Develop and use best practices for how to assess an Opportunity Business’ needs, such as skills development, mentoring, professional services, access to capital etc.

Team Support

  • Participate in regular WBCUtah team & CO-OP meetings, quarterly, and annual strategic planning and help set and accomplish center goals and objectives
  • Assist with planning, registration, set-up, and cleanup of WBCUtah events and training and Salt Lake Chamber major annual events.
  • Comply with WBCUtah, SL County/CO-OP branding, communications policies and other standard operating procedures and protocol
  • Participate in cross-training to ensure efficiency in ongoing operations

*QUALIFICATIONS

  • Language: Bilingual(?)
  • Knowledge: Understanding of basic principles and practices of small and micro business operations and the barriers and challenges unique to underserved communities, New Americans and refugees.
  • Interpersonal: Ability to listen actively, and communicate effectively, empathetically, professionally, and efficiently, both orally and in writing, to a varied audience.
  • Project Management: 1 year experience with program coordination, setting and accomplishing goals/objectives, strategic decision making
  • Data: Experience with gathering and analyzing data, and preparing and submitting reports, including descriptive narratives
  • Efficiency: Experience working independently, balancing priorities while being detail-oriented and organized, and successful with time management and deadlines.
  • Values: Exhibits a strong work ethic and personal values match WBCUtah core values of Equity, Trust, Compassion, Collaboration and Celebrating Success
  • Environment: Enjoys and contributes to a nonprofit mission-driven team environment by displaying honesty, is highly dependable and trusted for special projects and confidential matters
