We are seeking a full time Certified Peer Specialist to work in our Langhorne Office
SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:
A Peer Specialist/Recovery Coach is a fully integrated team member who provides highly individualized services in the community and promotes client self-determination and decision-making. They also provide essential expertise and consultation to the entire team to promote a culture in which each client’s point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into treatment, rehabilitation, and community self-help activities.
Education: Credentialed as a CPS and eligible for certification through the PA Certification Board.May have a college degree in human services field (or another area), or may have a high school diploma. CPS certification is required.
Experience: The peer specialist should have paid or volunteer experience with adults with severe and persistent mental illnesses. Peer Specialist/Recovery Coach will have the self-knowledge to manage their mental illness and be well along in their recovery. They will have the skills and competence to establish supportive trusting relationships with persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
1. Be a member of an individual treatment team for a number of clients.
2. Participate in comprehensive assessment of psychiatric history (onset, course, and effect of illness, past treatment and responses, risk behaviors, and accomplishments), mental status, and diagnosis; physical health and dental health; use of drugs and alcohol; education and employment; social development and functioning; activities of daily living (self-care, living situation, nutrition, money management) and family structure and relationships.
3. Consult with community agencies and organizations, including consumer run programs such as self-help groups and consumer drop-in centers. Facilitate client participation in consumer self-help programs and activities.
4. Document client progress to maintain a permanent record of client activity according to the agency’s established methods and procedures. Participate in staff organizational meetings and treatment planning review meetings.
Psychiatric Treatment and Substance Use Treatment Services
1. Contribute to the team’s ongoing assessment of clients’ mental illness symptoms and clients’ response to treatment. Shares observations and concerns with the team for consultation and direction and takes appropriate action.
2. Provide direct clinical services on an individual, group, and family basis in the office and in community settings to teach symptom-management techniques and promote personal growth and development by assisting clients to cope with internal and external stresses and move ahead with their goals.
3. Participate in the provision of rehabilitation services.
4. Perform mentoring, problem solving.
Social and Interpersonal Relationships and Leisure Time
1. Assist clients to plan and carry out leisure time activities on evenings, weekends, and holidays.
2. Provide side-by-side support and encouragement to help clients socialize (going with a client to
community activities, including activities offered by consumer-run peer support organizations.)
3. Organize and lead individual and group social and recreational activities to help clients structure
their time, increase social experiences, and provide opportunities to practice social skills.
Support
1. Provide practical help and mentoring, advocacy, coordination, side-by-side individualized
support, problem solving and direct assistance to help clients obtain the necessities of daily living.
General Responsibilities
1. Utilizes close supervision for professional growth and quality assurance. Adheres to agency policies, procedures, and practices while carrying out direct service and administrative duties promptly and accurately.
2. Completes and maintains orderly, legible, timely records of services and other documents in narrative or data formats as required by the agency or its contracts.
3. Pursues continuing education to maintain and up-grade social service knowledge and practice skills. Uses supervision to identify and address professional development needs. Specifically attends to on-going development of sensitivity to diverse cultural groups, particularly groups served by this position.
4. Understands and observes each client's rights to privacy and confidentiality as articulated by agency policy and procedures -- particularly for special programs, projects, services to which this position is assigned.
5. Performs administrative tasks and other duties as assigned.

Candidate must be able to pass the following Drug Screen, FBI/Fingerprinting Clearance

o Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance
