Boulder City Hospital is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant for our Outpatient Clinic!

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) is responsible for providing professional occupational therapy assistance and coordinates patient health care services in conjunction with a licensed Occupational Therapist to ensure a safe environment and in accordance with State, and Federal and Home Health policies and procedures. Provides supervisory support to ensure effective and efficient operations of departmental services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The COTA must be able to bend at the waist, stand, sit and push. Must have good vision, and hearing. Must possess good written and communication skills to deal with the public and hospital physicians and staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides treatment as directed by the staff Occupational Therapist. Adheres to standards of occupational medicine practice.
  • Observes and evaluated treatment affect. Discusses observations with staff Occupational Therapist.
  • Performs components of an appropriate assessment on each patient, as related to the therapy requested and provided and reassessments as per policy. This includes patients on the following services, i.e., Med/Surg/Telemetry, Long Term Care, Home Health and outpatients.
  • Assists with the formulation of a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and assesses effectiveness of learning; family is include in teaching as appropriate. Staff Occupational Therapist is advised of conclusions.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of occupational therapy modalities.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Maintains departmental cleanliness and safety.
  • Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, facility staff and members of the department.
  • Coordinates and assists with directing patient care to ensure patients’ needs are met and facility policy is followed.
  • Records treatment/service revisions in accordance with department policy.
  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities
  • Participates in performance improvement activities for the department and organizational QA activities.
  • Meets current documentation standards per policies, on a daily basis.
  • Participates in educational staff performance improvement in-services. Assists with orientation and in-service training for certified department staff members. Participates in guidance and education programs.
  • Assists in ordering supplies, maintains adequate levels to assure all supplies and equipment is readily available.
  • Provides input in formulating budget, assists in evaluating department performance versus budget controls and takes appropriate action to remain within budget guidelines.
  • Participates in all infection control, departmental equipment training and organizational safety and fire safety programs.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Professional Requirements:

  • Adheres to hospital dress code; appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completes annual continuing education requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, including state and federal regulations and standards.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
