General Functions
The Caring 4 Students Mental Health Therapist provides mental health counseling as a medically necessary intervention for students in assigned districts. This licensed therapist screens referrals, assesses student mental health needs, creates plans of care, and appropriately submits Medicaid claims through the Michigan
School Support Program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Well-educated mental health professional who excels in public service.
- Licensed master’s level marriage and family therapist, licensed master’s level professional counselor, limited licensed master’s level professional counselor under the supervision of a licensed master’s level professional counselor, licensed master’s level social worker, limited licensed master’s level social worker under the supervision of a licensed master’s level social worker or temporary limited licensed psychologist under the supervision of a fully licensed psychologist.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.
- Reliable transportation.
- Able to work as a member of a team and contribute to the agency vision and goals.
- Able to demonstrate confidentiality in all matters.
- Positive leadership skills.
- Must complete and pass required criminal history check.
Essential Duties
Essential duties shall include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborate with school personnel to implement the referral and service delivery of the Caring 4 Students
Program.
- Provide high quality, outcome-based therapy to students with a demonstrated medical necessity for mental health intervention.
- Engage and collaborate with other C4S therapist within the county and state to improve the overall
Caring 4 Students program in Newaygo County.
- Complete any required data collection, documentation as required by the C4S program or 31n Grant.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with NCRESA and member district personnel and actively promotes a philosophy of health and well being for students and community.
- Provide crisis intervention.
- Develop and implement positive behavioral intervention strategies to increase academic and social success.
- Assist with conflict resolution and anger management.

- Help students develop appropriate social interaction skills.
- Assist students in understanding and accepting self and others.
- Help students adjust to changes and challenges in their lives, such as illness, divorce, or unemployment
- Respond to crisis situations such as child abuse, neglect, suicide prevention, etc.
- Obtain, coordinate, and advocate for community resources that would improve student well-being.
- Follow up with students to ensure that their situations have demonstrated improvement.
- Provide case management for students and families requiring multiple resources.
- Evaluate services provided to ensure that they are effective
- Provide individual or group counseling.
- Consult with teachers in the development and modification of positive behavior plans.
- Act as a resource, if needed, to employees, student and the general public visiting the NC RESA.
- Possess knowledge of NC RESA’s organization, mission and philosophy.
- Perform other duties deemed appropriate by the Director of Intervention and Prevention Services.
Relationships and Other Duties
The Caring 4 Students Mental Health Therapist shall be directly accountable to the Director of Intervention and Prevention Services and shall demonstrate commitment to the mission of the Newaygo County RESA through:

- supporting the agency and department in the Continuous Improvement Plan, including all guiding principles, strategic directions, and service expectations.
Other Required Skills
- Able to communicate effectively (language skills).
- Able to work with mathematical concepts (mathematical skills).
- Able to use Microsoft Offices suite for completing tasks, etc. (computer skills).
- Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions (reasoning skills).
- Physically able to successfully perform the essential functions of the job (physical demands).

Terms of Employment
- minimum of 199 day calendar, 7.25 hours/day
