PRIMARY FUNCTION

Supervisors will perform all duties and responsibilities of the Ground Paramedic. CareFlite Supervisors will demonstrate an increased knowledge of CareFlite Protocols and Policies & Procedures. CareFlite Supervisors will ensure a safe working environment for all CareFlite employees and serve as a role model and a resource person to all employees. All Supervisors will maintain a positive mental attitude while fulfilling their assignments and responsibilities. This position works collaboratively with other CareFlite personnel to accomplish the patient care mission but does not provide direct supervision of personnel. This position may from time to time provide direction to other personnel who are being oriented.


REPORTS TO / SUPERVISES AND IS EVALUATED BY

This position reports to and is evaluated by the Director of Ground Operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety as measured by road safety and scores and collision rate:

  • Responsible for the safe operation of the emergency vehicle in accordance with federal, state and local laws and regulations; as well as CareFlite Policies and Procedures.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of all non-medical equipment, which is part of the ambulance and/or wheelchair van.
  • Performs routine maintenance check on assigned vehicle at the beginning of each shift. Reports and documents maintenance performed and service required, if any.
  • Assists flight crew in loading and unloading patients for the CareFlite helicopter and for fixed wing aircraft. Adheres to all aviation safety requirements in the performance of these duties.

Customer Service as measured by our customer service feedback:

  • Responsible for ensuring that CareFlite is perceived by its customers in a positive manner by conducting all interaction in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Communicates positively with patients, family members and medical personnel. Ensures that all individuals involved in the transport are fully informed of pertinent details related to the transport.
  • Accommodates family members to the extent possible without jeopardizing the safety of the patient mission or other CareFlite personnel.
  • Provides CareFlite Communication center with information required to initiate, track and close out the mission.
  • Meets special medical and/or comfort needs of patients to ensure that their transport is a positive experience.

Urgency as measured by compliance with company published chute times and response time standards.

  • Responsible for insuring an out of chute time less than 90 seconds 24 hours a day with a preferred chute time of 60 seconds during peak hours.
  • Responsible for insuring response time compliance is met according to contractual obligations. Employees should treat all calls as an emergency regardless of the call nature.

Quality Assurance/Improvement as measured by compliance with documentation standards:

  • Responsible for participating in the delivery of non-emergency and emergency patient care in accordance with Basic Life Support Protocols and CareFlite medical protocols.
  • Completes appropriate clinical assessment of patients and reports medical condition to receiving facility personnel and/or family.
  • Completes appropriate records to accurately report patient condition at time of transport and to record services rendered by CareFlite personnel before and during transport.
  • Ensures that assigned vehicle is adequately stocked and cleaned according to CareFlite policies and procedures.
  • Incumbent(s) will actively participate in quality assurance/improvement activities as directed by their supervisor. Each incumbent will acquaint themselves with the quality assurance surveys and/or quality improvement projects, which affect their practice and adhere to the standards or changes implemented. Each incumbent will provide feedback in a positive proactive manner on quality assurance/improvement activities, which impact their practice.

Fiscal Responsibility as measured by patient records that correctly support patient billing:

  • Incumbent(s) will search out opportunities to utilize their free time while on duty to improve their professional skills or participate in work related projects, such as public relations with facilities.
  • Incumbent(s) will identify efficiency or cost saving ideas in a timely manner to their immediate supervisor.

CareFlite’s Corporate Compliance Program:

  • Supports assigned partner by sharing in the delivery of patient care, lifting of patients and/or equipment, documentation of transports, and stocking, cleaning and maintenance of assigned vehicle.
  • Incumbent(s) will focus their efforts on supporting their co-workers at all times.
  • Incumbent(s) will be supportive of diversity within the work setting and will address co-workers in a respectful manner at all times. Personal issues will be addressed outside the workplace. Constructive criticism of a co-worker or supervisor will be offered in a private setting and delivered in a positive and respectful manner.
  • Responsible for leading, directing, and participating in the delivery of non-emergency and emergency patient care in accordance with CareFlite protocols.

  • Properly documents all medical/billing information as outlined in the CareFlite Ground “Quality Assurance” process.
  • Maintains all required Ground Paramedic certifications including City of Dallas Ambulance Permit.
  • Reviews call documentation to assure all information is complete and assures the information is forwarded to the billing department in the appropriate manner.
  • Assures all Ground units properly complete their daily run documentation by checking it against the Dispatch Run History and performs front line quality assurance.
  • Issues stock supplies and drugs and coordinates with the appropriate resource to order supplies when necessary.
  • Maintains an appropriate inventory of medical supplies.
  • Assures drugs kept on the truck and in the storeroom are current with the appropriate dates and rotate the medication per the ground policy.
  • Coordinates the distribution of medical supplies and medications issued to the ground ambulances.
  • Ensures all NARCOTICS are properly documented and assigned to the appropriate unit and immediately reports any deficiencies to the Operations Manager/FTO.
  • Coordinates work assignments demonstrating fiscal responsibility adhering to ground budget. Schedules and posts work assignments for Ground Crews.
  • Fills open shifts when needed with appropriate personnel
  • Assigns vehicles to the appropriate crew in regard to vehicle readiness and mileage.
  • Coordinates all vehicle maintenance and prioritizes the vehicles needing repair in regard to current staffing needs and the severity of the repair.
  • Performs a “follow up” on all vehicles returning to service to ensure the repairs were completed.
  • Assists all employees in achieving their behavioral objective by serving as a clinical and behavioral role model.
  • Assist in employee job performance evaluations. Participates in the interview process for new hire employees.
  • Appropriately follows all Disciplinary Action procedures on employees not adhering to CareFlite Policy & Procedures.
  • CareFlite Field Supervisors are responsible for documenting all Verbal Disciplinary Action when necessary and reports such actions to the Operations Manager.
  • Ensures all Ground units remain in a “Ready To Go” status at all times.
  • Ensures proper documentation in regard to “UNIT CHECKOUT” and TDH requirements.
  • Performs Vehicle Spot Inspections on a regular basis to ensure adherence to CareFlite Policy compliance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Ground Services and/or the Operations Manger.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Completion of high school or its equivalent.
  • Completion of an approved Paramedic program
  • Current Texas State Paramedic certification
  • Current Dallas City ambulance driver permit
  • Current Texas Class C drivers license
  • BLS & ACLS certification for Paramedics.

Requires knowledge of:

  • Working knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and usage. Ability to work independently and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Able to lift at least a 200 pound Isolette or patient with a partner.
  • Works regularly with confidential patient and personnel information.
  • Ability to maintain composure and tact in stressful situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
  • Basic knowledge working with computers.
  • Must have a superior working knowledge of the CareFlite Policy & Procedures as well as the Ground Protocols.
