The Capacity Building to End Homelessness AmeriCorps VISTA Program is seeking an AmeriCorps VISTA member to join Avalon Housing in Ann Arbor. Avalon Housing has been Washtenaw County's leading provider of affordable, long-term housing with built-in care and support for neighbors who need it. Avalon serves adults and families in the county who have experienced homelessness and extremely low incomes and face multiple barriers to housing stability. Avalon is seeking an AmeriCorps VISTA member to help build a sustainable and lasting volunteer program. The VISTA would increase the number of regular volunteers, develop and implement a volunteer retention plan, and develop and implement a recruitment program specifically for food pantry volunteers, ultimately creating a volunteer-led pantry program. Service benefits include: a living allowance of $17,600, health benefits, childcare benefits (eligibility based), an option of a $6,495 education award or $1,800 cash stipend, non-competitive eligibility for 12 months following service, and $400/month housing stipend (paid directly to a landlord/mortgage provider). Member Duties : The VISTA would build the capacity of the organization's volunteer program by increasing the number of regular volunteers and developing and implementing a volunteer retention plan. They would also identify and engage volunteers to be able to lead a food pantry program.
