Basic Function This position requires daily on-site management of the DHS mobile decontamination laboratory on Plum Island, the primary laboratory for processing biological or chemical indicators to provide independent verification/validation of decontamination throughout the project. It requires the ability to plan and forecast activities, perform sample environmental sample analysis, maintain the necessary equipment, and ensure a safe and secure work environment with strict adherence to contract security and quality assurance requirements.
This position will generally spend the majority of their time performing technical leadership activities and serving as the laboratory manager, and on-site subject matter expert, as required. This position requires both technical and managerial skills, and also requires good communication skills with our clients to assess their needs and develop beneficial relationships with their organizations. Knowledge of laboratory Quality Assurance and Biorisk Management standards and working with Select Agents. Nature and Scope This position will directly report to the Resource Director - Life Sciences, and operationally report to the Program Manager while assigned to the mobile laboratory.
This position requires the ability to work independently and conduct critical decision-making, often working directly with an interdisciplinary team from the government and contractor staff working on- and off-site. It will have the authority to make decisions regarding personnel, facility matters and supplies for operation of the mobile laboratory. Essential Functions • Oversees the planning, organization, and direction of technical staff to perform appropriate projects in collaboration with key personnel. • The ability to plan and forecast activities, perform research, provide the necessary equipment, and ensure a safe and secure work environment with strict adherence to quality requirements.

- This position will generally spend the majority of their time performing technical leadership activities and serving as the technical task lead and on-site subject matter expert on technical activities. Supervisory/Management Responsibility This is a supervisory position for up to four (4) on-site analytical staff. This will involve directing work assignments, ensuring staff have the necessary resources to accomplish their assigned tasks, and assisting with the professional growth and skill development of the staff. Success Factors • Outstanding interpersonal, analytical, leadership skills and team orientation • Proficient oral and written communication skills and ability to engage with staff at all levels across organizational lines • Demonstrates technical subject matter expertise relevant to the Capability team • PC skills including Microsoft Suite, Outlook, and the ability to learn new software systems • Experience and technical knowledge to support quality assurance activities including the development of SOPs, risk assessments, Corrective and Preventive Action Plans (CAPAs) Minimum Qualifications • Advanced degree in a technical related field plus a minimum of 3 years relevant experience; B.S./B.A.
