OMG is currently made up of two divisions: Roofing Products and FastenMaster. Each has several business units focused on growth of specific product lines. The Business Unit Director- Fasteners is responsible for utilizing operations excellence tools and strong P&L management to expand its business. Reporting to the Senior Vice President & General Manager of the division, the Director will focus at the strategic level on delivering targeted financial results, implementing successful strategic thinking, planning, and execution processes, and developing strong leadership benches within his or her business unit. The Director also will develop a team of managers to motivate and engage employees, defining a positive and dynamic culture. This position will initially have 3 direct reports in Marketing functions and influence a team in Operations and Manufacturing functions.

Drive BU Strategic Thinking

  • Encourage utilization of OMG’s strategic thinking process
  • Define characteristics that set the Business Unit apart in marketplace. Drive identification and balance of short- and long-term business needs. Maintain grasp of BU Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats. Demonstrate forward thinking and perspective beyond BU boundaries

Oversee BU Strategic Planning/Execution

  • Understand “bottom line” concerns that impact strategy creation/execution
  • Exploit most highly leveraged business opportunities with strategic plans
  • Translate vision/objectives from strategic thinking into strategic plans. Utilize Strategic Deployment Process to achieve key annual initiatives. Measure SDP progress with regular review of key metrics and reporting

Deliver BU Business Results

  • Aggressively manage BU to meet or exceed business goals. Manage BU’s complete value stream from order to customer. Drive use of SBS tools to increase productivity and reduce waste. Ensure financial reports are prepared/submitted timely pursuant to GAAP
  • Manage capital expenditures to maximize return on investment. Work with Business Development to actively pursue mergers/acquisitions

Promote Leadership Development

  • Align BU strategic plan with company and individual contributor goals. Foster learning environment that encourages employee development. Pursue individual growth/development using development plans/coaching
  • Support Steel Grow initiatives by developing team leadership bench. Develop succession plans for key positions within BU (direct report management of approximately 6-8 team members)
  • Drive leadership development down to the front-line supervision

Communicate Powerfully

  • Share company goals/performance to inspire employee action. Create high levels of engagement and commitment
  • Convey passion about company and gratitude for employee effort. Develop/maintain relationships with key customers/industry organizations
  • Promote company and BU brands as a community and market leaders

Key Goals

  • Ensure Safety program drives goal of zero injuries
  • Develop and implement BU 2021 strategic plan and P&L
  • Continue to drive Division budgeted sales while executing BU plan
  • Implement strategic thinking process to enhance 2021 strategic plan
  • Work with division SVP to develop/implement long term BU strategic plan
  • Maximize EBITDA through sales and cost management
  • Work with division SVP to develop/implement plan to transition‘ left side resources’ to reporting directly into BU
  • Challenge left side resources to deliver best service possible to BU (identifying and demanding support of specific business needs)
  • Ensure use of performance management, development plans and continuous feedback to develop team
  • Achieve exceptional leadership team and solid bench
  • Drive regular use of GEMBA, Stage Gate and Kaizens, “walk the talk” by participating in kaizens and pushing use of SBS tools
  • Develop into strategic business partner for Division SVPGM and OMG executive management team
  • Utilize consistent communication and transparency to gain the trust of employees and motivate BU team to achieve long term growth and financial success
  • Achieve success from the company and customer’s perspectives
  • Prepare to achieve transition of left-side resources to direct reporting

Skills & Qualifications

  • Track record of delivering results in a financially driven culture
  • Success overseeing strategic planning including use of metrics/countermeasures
  • Application of budget, accounting and financial principles, and forecasting, measuring, and reporting tools, to achieve financial targets
  • Application of lean principles to achieve operations excellence
  • Leadership development with specific examples of successful mentoring
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, and strong level of self-awareness
  • Experience creating or maintaining a strong culture promoting safety, respect, and integrity
  • Experience increasing employee engagement with specific examples of tools utilized
  • Excellent PC skills including experience with MS OfficeSuite

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline required (MBApreferred)
  • 8 to 12 years progressive and related business experience (Manufacturing preferred)

Additional Requirements

  • Must have ability to attend GEMBA
  • Work requires problem solving skills and ability to analyze data and make rational decisions
  • Must be able to communicate with others to supervise
  • Work requires ability to utilize company computer equipment and software programs
  • Work requires ability to travel to company locations/meetings including maintaining credit card to pay expenses (to be reimbursed) and driving rental vehicles/flying
  • Work may require occasional lifting, carrying, bending
