Peckham Inc. - Talent Development Specialist
JOB SUMMARY
The Talent Development Specialist is a role that has a variety of functions related to training development and delivery. The person in this role will split time between the creation of new training materials, evaluating existing training materials, and delivering training. This role acts a project manager over training projects. Activities can include training needs assessment, instructional design and development of training and assessments, and educational activities for Peckham team members and sometimes staff. Training topics include but are not limited to; employment preparedness, English/ESOL proficiency, basic computer skills, soft skills, organizational topics and other relevant training. The trainer provides classroom instruction, facilitates small group activities and 1:1 activities following assigned curriculum. This position develops training materials and assessments for classroom delivery, storyboards for eLearning, or recommending changes in assigned courses.
This position can be based out of our Lansing, MI, Grand Rapids, MI or Phoenix, AZ locations.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
  • Conduct training needs analysis and report findings to stakeholders.
  • Design and develop training materials including activities for professional/vocational development. Materials may include assessments, interactions, worksheets, homework assignments, eLearning tools, instructional videos, presentations, classroom instruction, and blended learning curriculum.
  • Participate in keeping the LMS accurate, running necessary reports, and completing LMS tasks that pertain to new and existing training.
  • Uses evaluation tools to assess training results and make recommendations towards other learning activities.
  • Collaborate with other Peckham staff, trainers, Mission Engagement (MEe) trainers, AmeriCorps Members, and team members.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following
  • May be called upon to provide written or verbal feedback directly to participants, Vocational Support Specialists, and supervisors.
  • Shows flexibility in training delivery style and method to meet the needs of the class.
  • Make appropriate adaptations for the purposes of accommodating a participant’s disability or learning need.
  • Promote Peckham’s vision, values, and services to all customers and stakeholders.
  • Assist in maintaining organization wide quality standards.
  • Assist in the training of people with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office XP (Word, Excel, Access) and typing
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree required from an accredited college or university in the areas of Adult Learning, Education, Instructional Design, Organizational Behavior, Human Resources, Business, or another related field.
  • Or High School Diplomas or GED and 4 years of experience in workplace training and development.
  • Excellent planning, class management and coordination skills.
  • Strong ability to work with a variety of learning styles, communication styles, and provide accommodations where indicated.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning theory, curriculum design, and training.
  • Instructional Design experience, creating training materials and assessments/evaluations.
  • Required expertise in using Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Preferred experience using Workday, SharePoint, or Cornerstone LMS.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience providing training, coaching, or mentoring individuals with disabilities.
  • ESL Certification is a plus.
  • ATD and/or SHRM certifications preferred.
  • Acute business acumen and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to train and develop others.
  • Ability to inspire trust, build relationships, and lead.
  • Strategic thinking capabilities with a focus on results
TRAVEL
This position requires some travel to different Peckham locations to deliver training, classes, assessments, coaching sessions, and practices sessions. Locations include but are not limited to: Michigan (Greater-Lansing area, Charlotte, Grand Rapids, Battle Creek) and Arizona.
SHIFT
This position requires some flexible hours and may be assigned schedules that fit non-traditional office hours to meet the needs of staff and team members including start times at 7:00 a.m. or late afternoon, evening, and Saturday schedules. The individual will have influence on how the schedule is set, to ensure balance and flexibility.
